I've been hearing a lot lately that the Cowboys aren't even favored to win the NFC East. What do you guys think? I believe that we have a Super Bowl contender on our hands for the first time since the mid-90's.

The NFC East is just too hard to predict now IMO. There are 3 teams that are pretty much equal, and one that isn't far behind. Anything can happen, so I really, really, cannot tell what will happen.

I thought the 4 teams were pretty even last year, when all were healthy.

The addition of Owens to the Cowboys puts them head and shoulders above the others, IMO.

I think the NFC east, is the hardest division in football. I think in reality,we have as much of a shot in winning the division, as the rest of the teams do. In paper I think we have the best team, but that don't mean nothing.

With a division as tough as ours, it will come down to which team will stay the healthiest.

It's most important what you do in January. Seriously. Remember that Pittsburgh didn't even win their dividion last year and we all know how their season turned out.

Can't count on it, of course, but I like the Cowboys chances.

You're absolutely right.

I feel the only thing that kept the Cowboys from winning the division title (and possibly the NFC) last year were injuries.

Had we stayed relatively healthy, we would've easily won the division.

This year will be no different. The healthy teams will make it to the playoffs.

I know you'll take offense here, because of the content of your thread. But using your own philosophy and your obvious steps to counte what "you've heard", your very own NFC-East predictions are completely condescending. Coupled with the fact that you haven't even qualified your predictions. Indeed, your predictions are based on your wishes using the "good fan" concept.

That's alright though, because you should think positive and root your team on to a successful year. But realistically, did you ever stop to think about last year's predictions ...do you think the fans believed that the Eagles would go 6-10; or that the Cowboys would be runner-ups to the basement and not make the playoffs? No way!

Here's the point ...if your're leading a "pep-rally" to encourage support for your franchise; your comments are perfectly legitimate. Otherwise, the best that anyone can hope for is a healthy season, with breakout games for their respective rookies.

To bring my point home, consider a healthy Cowboys team with a 16-0 regular season. That's far beyond what you're calling for in your predictions. That said, all teams in the NFC East could potentially be predicted to go ...

8-8 ..some will exceed that mark, while others will not. As such, I am confident that the Eagles will surpass their 6-10 2005 season standings. How that will impact on the NFCE ...I'm not certain,

Dallas 12-4
Giants 10-6
Eagles 9-7
Commanders 8-8 (I have a strong feeling Brunell will miss a lot of time this year)

Yeah, Brunell is already hurting. I don't think Jason Campbell could take the Skins to the playoffs if Brunell goes down. We also need to hope Bledsoe stays healthy, too. If he goes down, we are screwed.

Its gonna be an interesting season in the NFC East this yr. The thing I think we can all agree on is that the Eagles are gonna be at the bottom the standings.

I'm a Die hard skins fans who's boss is a very knowledgeble boys fan. Now we argue all the time but we both know a lot about football, and I told him today after seeing TO on TV that TO is gonna be a force this yr for anyone. he got to prove everyone wrong on him for last yr plus he can make your team so much better in other areas.. a good sign of a elite player. TO does have his bagges but this yr he will be on his best behavior and all he really wanted was more money - You guys paid him and now he's happy. The guy apparently has been working out 5 times a week, and was blowing past your 2nd corner today but he would do that to Henry too. I'm glad Taylor ain't going to jail but I worry about springs this yr getting ayr old and covering TO. He will also no doubt improve your tight end and running pack packages since he kinda forces the opponent to pay that much attention to him.

Offensive line my boss believes is still a weakness for you guys. And we have upgraded our defense except in lavar's old spot WLB. I can't wait till the 2nd game to see how we both fare against each other but your team def had a good offseason, and I see alot of people on here who still arn't convinced.

All i pray for is no injuries (serious) to either team.

I'm responding to those ares highlighted above ...

No disrespect to your fandom, but you do not sound like a knwledgeable Skins fan. Now SkinsandTerps (SaT) is what I'd call a knowledgeable Skins fan. And don't get me wrong, he may agree with you, but he'd qualify his comments with something a little more than ...the TO concept. The Eagles have a defensive squad that isn't too shabby either.

TO does have his "bagges" but this yr he will be on his best behavior and all he really wanted was more money - You guys paid him and now he's happy.

TO is happy because he got paid = the end justifies the means. The money was only one part of the continuum of "baggage" that TO may still have lurking in the shadows and corners of his mind. Allow me to qualify my comments ...TO is "happy" when he's scoring touchdowns (that's understandable). His profile indicates that he complains when he feels the ball should have been in his hands versus someone who is less worthy. Now the team concept suggests that as long as the play was productive for the benefit of the many (the team effort), then the sacrifice is expected of the few (those that are frustrated because they weren't involved in the progress of the ball). Another factor is that most teams know that TO is the "go-to" person, that will sometimes act as a decoy (as you suggest). Defensive sqauds will be cognizant of TO. Now don't get me wrong, TO will get his touches; but they will be costly, with emphasis placed on minimizing "yardage obtained after the reception."

Now the Skins appear to have a depth concern in the QB and possible within the threads of your defensive squad. Health is a given ...stay healthy and be More productive; which applies to all NFL teams. Remember too, that you're sitting up in DC with an injured QB before training camp, pre-season and possibly the start of the regular season.

That all having been said, I believe things may be pretty much even across the board in the NFCE. Now I may catch a little heat from SaT about this, but that's expected. But His rebuttals (if any) will consist of sound football savvy dialogue, and not unqualified statements.

I enjoy reading predictions as much as the next guy. Right now, I think you've got about a 1 in 16 chance of predicting the order in the NFCE.

We could be in the basement or at the top. A key injury here or there to any of the four teams in our division could place that team in the bottom. A key player or two stepping up unexpectedly could make any one of the teams very, very tough.

The team that worries me the most right now, Philly.

Manning is the key in NY. He's good and getting better. But, I believe Strahan is going to drop off this year. I really do. Age is the proverbial brick wall. That said, I guess I don't really know how old he is. Seems like he's been around forever.

I think the Cowboys have addressed the very things that will make us match up to Washington better than our other division rivals. I think we have a better chance of nuetralizing their passing game with the additions of some actual FS and a better pass rush. I don't have faith in Washington's QB situation right now. But I think they are better off than we are as far as back up QB's. Bledsoe has a better shot of staying healthy than Brunell, though.

Philly had an off year. I know, it might not have been a fluke. They could be as bad this year as last. But I don't see it. They still have a very good QB. They no longer have the same distraction in the locker room. I think the big question in Philly might be how long does it take for them to regain that lost confidence. If they can pull some team chemistry back together, they'll challange for the division as well as anyone.

Do I think the Boys will win the division? Sure I do. I always do. I've been wearing my rose-colored, star-shaped glasses since birth. :D
