NFC exec: Don't be surprised if Eagles trade up for Wentz

Our analysts and writers are constantly talking to NFL and college sources about draft prospects. Lance Zierlein share some of what NFL folks are discussing in draft rooms throughout the league.

The scoop: "Don't be surprised if a team like the Eagles makes a really strong move up the board to get (Carson) Wentz. I don't think he's worth it, but I think they do. Everyone thinks you have to move ahead of Cleveland, but (Browns Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta) will want to get as many picks as possible out of this draft. It wouldn't surprise me if a team moved directly to Cleveland's spot for Wentz." -- NFC executive

The skinny: The Eagles clearly need a QB and their trade up from No. 13 to No. 8 gets them closer to being able to move up for that piece, if they choose to. If they only have eyes for Wentz, then it could become very prohibitive to move up the board; however, if Cal QB Jared Goff were to be in play for the Eagles as well, it isn't much of a stretch to believe they could move up the few slots they would need to pick Goff. I believe Wentz is the more highly valued of the two QBs.

What would the Eagles trade? A few future #1 picks? They don't have a second rounder. I don't see them throwing away Fletcher Cox.

Eagles with Wentz and sitting in a situation like Washington with no future #1 picks isn't exactly that scary. Howie kind of sucks at the draft so he'd be really bad with no picks in the future to hope he hits on. They would also have a serious cap charge at the QB position considering what they are paying Bradford and Daniel.

I'd be surprised to see them move that far up. Without a 2nd round pick they would have to get really creative. I really like Wentz, but if he doesn't pan out a move like this sets that franchise back 5 years.

Gonna be tough without a second rounder. They were eyeing Lynch last fall. If they pulled the Wentz deal off, the zone would crash.

The 2nd scenarios of a smaller trade up for Goff is far more likely.
Don't see how they could get to Cleveland

I find it impossible they would sign two QBs, trade one and draft another in one offseason. Seems crazy for even their front office.

Why? A starter beats two backups.

So you've decided they are getting a starter? Seems premature.

Whoever they draft would likely be a better player than Bradford or Daniel. Bradford cant play dead, and Daniel is a career backup. Not premature at all. Maybe not start game one, but certainly by mid season.

I thought Murray, Maxwell, and Alonso had no trade value and the Eagles actually got something for those players. So maybe the Eagles work some more magic and trade Sam Bradford straight up for Cleveland's #2 pick. Someone reassure me that even Cleveland is not that stupid :)

Unfortunately they are just that

I suggested a few days ago they might be a trade partner with an interest in a QB. They moved up to 8 to get something they couldn't get at 13. Figured they're interested in Elliott, Jack, a QB, or maybe Lawson.

Their two 3rd rounders work out exactly on the trade chart with our pick...

(4) 1800 = (8) 1400 + (77) 205 + 79 (195)

They just need to get ahead of SF at 7 though. A single 3rd can move them up to 6.

I'd take their 1st and Fletcher Cox.

See that's ridiculous, how can you say certainly? Sure you can assess what's on the team, but a rookie coming in under a new head coach, throwing to c level receivers being better after six for sure is an absolute stretch.

So you believe that they're paying Bradford $18 million this year and Daniel $7 million per year just so they can turn around and give up their draft to add another quarterback to that mix?
