With only one game remaining in the regular season, the topics of conversation have largely switched from playoff-clinching scenarios to potential coaching changes and a look ahead to free agency. Many of the teams that struggled to put up points on a regular basis did so due to injured starters or a lack of overall talent along the roster. Fixing these issues is doable via the draft, but free agency is another option. Of course, the talent pool only works if there are potential starters available due to expiring contracts or being waived, and it looks like there will be a slew of intriguing options possibly joining free agency

This is an easy guess for writers. Lee is the most exp linebacker and also the most often injured now that Smith is healthy. No one knows what Jerry will do. We could cut him but for what? Do we actually need his 7 million in cap savings? Not yet we don't, but a restructure talk should be coming first.

Lee is more of coach than player at this stage. Only team who would sign him is to bring along their young LB group. His contract would be low signing bonus & based on incentives - Lee might just decide to retire.

I'd like to keep him around for insurance and his influence on the young LBers

Sean Lee will have to reevaluate his value to this team as a player. If he doesn't want to make less money next season then perhaps he should consider being a player/coach and then transition into full-time coaching. Short of doing that, his time with this team could be growing very short.

Emmitt went to Arizona, Ware went to Denver, Romo benched, Dez cut, etc
Emmitt wanted to start and the Cowboys couldn't guarantee that so they let him leave as a favor. You really think Jerry wanted Emmitt ever wearing another uniform?

Ware was due a huge amount of money the following season and had been dealing with missed games due to injuries recently and he did not want to take less money so they released him. He went to Denver where he also missed several games due to injury, but played well when on the field.

Romo was not going to start so he planned to retire. If he retired first, he would have been forced to pay the Cowboys back for $5 million of his pro-rated signing bonus. Instead of letting him retire first and forcing him to pay back that money, they released him instead so he could keep that money as appreciation for what he did and meant to the Cowboys during his years here.

Jerry has never shown any loyalty to anyone except Garrett.

Now i can understand that most people critizise JJ for being too loyal to players. But this ....

If you dont like Garrett as a HC its ok. But do you need to be an idiot to prove it ?

Lee has never played an entire season since being drafted, at 33 years of age "at the beginning of next season" he can't really think that's going to change. The fresh start could very well be realizing reduced snaps at a reduced salary in a familiar place is his best fit.

Sean Lee's Mind and Heart are willing but not his body....mostly soft tissue issues with that guy. He's no spring chicken in football years either. Would love to see a spot for him on the Defensive coaching staff.

Like I said, no loyalty. It's a business and I agree with his moves. Tough business.

Patriots or Zimmer (Vikings..
Ebeflus in Indianapolis
Gruden seems like the coach that would use Lee as a veteran leadership bridge.

I hope Lee accepts a limited role with our Boys. Hotboys still need a consistent compass
