Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints before next week's NFL Combine, and then with the Dallas Cowboys after the Combine, the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported Friday.
Thomas, a seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker and one of the most popular and productive players ever to wear a Dolphins uniform, was cut Thursday, the biggest move yet in Miami's massive rebuilding project.
Thomas missed most of last season because of concussions and migraines andwas placed on injured reserve against his wishes in December because of nagging migraines, an aftereffect of an Oct. 21 car crash.
The move is the second major salary slash this week by the Dolphins, who went 1-15 last season and subsequently brought in Bill Parcells to lead there building.
Miami trimmed about $9 million in 2008 base salary on Monday, when it parted ways with quarterback Trent Green, wide receiver Marty Booker and seven other players. Thomas was slated to make just over $5.6 million in base salary this coming season.
Thomas led the Dolphins in tackles 10 times, is the franchise's all-time leader in that category by a wide margin, and his 168 games is the most by any Miami defensive player.

The Saints can pretty much guarantee that he'll start next year. However if he wants to come back home and play a roll on a good team the Cowboys are the perfect fit.

Hopefully Rosenhaus will convince him to at least hear our sales pitch before he signs something with the Saints.

I dont think he will be too expensive ....at his age he just wants to win a ring...and until last year hasnt been too injury prone ..and he may be the veteran leader this team needs...........I say go for it .(if its a reasonable deal)

Zach used to be a bad mother(shut your mouth)! But, nowdays? I don't know? What I do know is that he used to be a favorite of mine even though he played for the Fins...

His age and injury history now that he is older? I just don't know. He would command respect from the young guys because he KNOWS what football is about...so?

Maybe for a tryout or a vet minimum for training camp...yeah, maybe?

I guess a lot depends on his concussions and problems after the car crash.

Guys like H Houck and if Maxie joins, should be able to help give a more accurate picture . . . . or maybe they already have, and that's why Z Thomas is coming in for a meeting . . . .

On a side note, did Maxie ever join the coaching staff?

He said he wants to be a on a championship team. Granted, we cant even win a playoff game, but we still got a better chance of holding a Lombardi than "Nawlins".

Depending on his workouts, and whether or not he's recovered from the car accident, I'd love to see him suit up for the Cowboys. I doubt he's our savior at LB, but I like it.

If he plays in spots or part-time and can add some veteran leadership in the locker room and comes cheap, I'm all for it.

We need a veteran to show the young guys who to prepare for the game and prepare for the playoffs.

If he's willing to sign for a Vet Min. I dont see why not?? We don't have to play him, he can add some veteran leadership on this team. look how much Ken Hamlin helped us last year, not just his play, but hsi IQ for hte game..Thomas would be a great addition, at the right price!
