Great......... Jerry start sweet talking. Man id love to have this guy.

Why?? He's a TERRIBLE fit in a 3-4 defense...

Then there's the age and health issues...

I don't understand why the Boys are interested in talking to him...

Agree, I don't see it. But, if they sign him, I'm sure Wade will give an explanation.

Concussions scare me. Once a player starts down that path it seems like they never go away.

This is the type of move I wanted Dallas to make this offseason. We need some Brian Dawkins and Junior Seaus in the lockerroom. This team's problem isn't talent. This team didn't lose in the playoffs because they have a bad 3rd CB, it was a complete collapse through the entire team at almost every position. They lost because they mentally choked in the pressure moment.

agreed, and a Thomas-type player would fit that role perfectly.

Ya, just like Seau.

Yes, Prairie Flower.
Junior really brought home the Lombardi.
Oh, wait, genius, he didn't get a Lombardi.

Zach, like Seau, can't afford to wait much longer. And that is the trouble.
They are stop-gap and old and that is all.
Zach and Seau are just geezers collecting a paycheck.

I'll pass.

Or Marco Rivera.
Rivera was brought in to be a starter. Seau and Thomas are/were expected to be back-ups. The risk would be much lower to bring in Thomas.....

I'm surprised that people aren't more excited about Thomas -- yeah, he was hurt last year but it was the only time he missed a lot of games. Yeah, he's 35 -- but he gives you something that our young guys don't, won't, or can't - leadership and passion.

He's a tackling machine and a great leader. We've lacked fire on this defense for some time now. This could be very good for us. We've got a ton of talent on defense but not enough fire or leadership. Thomas could put us over the top.

Well he will be a starter in NO and a backup in Dallas. I guess it comes down to if he wants to play on a winning team and have a shot at a ring (assuming we can win a freaking playoff game at some point) or does he want to cash in before calling it a career?

He signs with Saints......he is playing for money
He signs with us..........he wants a shot at a ring.

His decision.
I want to remind you that the Saints were in the NFCC game in 2006. They have an offense that is scary good and was turning it on when you guys were letting up last year and if they commit to putting together a defense (those DEs can be good), they could contend next year.

I kind of doubt we'll cut Ayodele because of his cap hit. So the big difference is that Dallas could just insert Ayodele back into the starting lineup if Thomas turns out to be another Rivera. With Rivera Dallas was pretty much stuck with him at starter.

Thomas should be a much cheaper alternative to Lance Briggs, but he's not going to last as long. Good to see that I wasn't imagining things when I saw Dallas desperately needing better LB play, particularly in coverage, by Ayodele and Burnett.

New Orleans also ranked last in QB rating allowed. They've got a long ways to go to improve the defense. And if your defense is that lousy, it's hard to contend for a Super Bowl.

If healthy, Thomas could easily start over Ayodele. Not to mention he's from Texas and the city of New Orleans is still in rough shape from Katrina.

Zach Thomas would be a great addition for them for that reason. A good cover LB and somebody who could organize the defense and read formations. He'd be great to add for them and would improve that defense by just more than his stats. They don't need a top 10 defense to make a deep playoff push, just a respectable one. If they can convince him that they are going to pick up a couple of players for the secondary, I think he will be wearing a saints jersey and the Saints will be in the mix next year.

I thought Burnett was decent in coverage.....

I think Thomas' preferences are to play for either Dallas, SD, NE, or the Colts - according to him.

The Saints could be a contender and he arranged for an interview, so I imagine he's interested

Probably, but I'd bet he'd choose any of the teams I listed above rather than NO if he was offered a fair contract.

He basically wants a ring.

I dont understand he is old argument. He may be 35 and had some concussion issues last year, but he will come cheap and this will be a huge addition to this team.

Did anyone notice how poor Akin was at pass coverage last year?

Seemed as if he was always chasing the TE/RB when singled up.

Wasn't his concussion from a car accident? Not like he has a football injury history
