A senior NFL official confirmed that 'substantive talks' have been held with London officials about holding the Super Bowl abroad, the BBC reported Friday.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has expressed interest in the past about bringing the game to London in an effort to expand the game to a global audience.

"We've spoken on what it would take to host and for us to bring it over," the BBC quotes events vice-president Frank Supovitz, speaking in New York City a day before the NFL Draft will take place there. "The city has all the facilities needed, and in great quantity."

Visit London, the city's official visitor organization, has long pursued a deal to bring the Super Bowl to the capital.

"Ever since the NFL began playing games in London we have been in discussions with the NFL about what is involved in staging Super Bowl from the host city perspective," the BBC quoted commercial director David Hornby.

While the venues for the next three Super Bowls have already been chosen, London appears to be a real possibility down the road.

The NFL has already had success there, with a regular season game at Wembley in 2007 drawing 80,000 fans to watch the New York Giants play the Miami Dolphins.

I sure wish the article would have come out on April 1st. :bang2:

I don't like this at all. The Super Bowl is an American "holiday." It should be played in America. The teams have enough to worry about without having to travel across the world after working so hard to make it to a championship.

I can't wait till the season starts and the NFL gets the same rude awakening that baseball is getting right now.

What an idiot! When we have a struggling economy, he wants to talk about taking a money making machine to Europe!

As long as it kicks off at a decent hour, I could care less where it's held. The fact that they're starting the NFL draft at 4pm Eastern (absurd) is not a good indicator of where things are heading.

I have supported Goodell on many things but this is not one of them. This is an American game played by American teams and it should be played in America where the fans who live here have the chance to attend to see their team play. I never had a big issue with Pre-season games being played their but was not crazy about reg. season game and certainly not post season game or championship

I totally can't stand that either... I used to get together with my brother and we'd be ready to roll with the draft by 10am... back when they used to have it at 11am CDT. Getting ready with the chat rooms, cracking a beer or 3, and just plain having a good time...

Last year I didn't pay attn and thought it was still at 11am only to find out that I had to wait 3 more hours... I was POd to find that out... I hate that start time... Oh well, maybe Goodell can make it Saturday night prime time next year... money, money, money:rolleyes: :jackpot:
