Dallas Cowboys plan uniform switch for Thanksgiving

Dallas Cowboys you're accustomed to seeing on Turkey Day will look a little different Thursday. Big D won't wear its traditional throwback jerseys and helmets for the holiday tilt with the Oakland Raiders at AT&T Stadium, per the Cowboys' official site.

The reason? Safety. The NFL has banned teams from wearing alternate helmets to comply with the league's emphasis on concussion awareness. That means Dallas won't dress in the blue-star-laden white helmets they typically wear on Thanksgiving Day. Instead, for the first time since playing in the Cotton Bowl, theCowboys will don their regular blue jerseys for the annual game.

I don't understand why you couldn't wear a throwback uniform with the star helmet, but I don't really care either.

So are they, or are they not going to look different at all. They plan a switch but the article doesn't really say anything about a switch.

Kind of interesting to see the NFL care so much about the fit of the helmet but still allow big old heaps of dreadlocks.

I don't imagine the helmets fit as well with that much hair in there as they would without it.

Switching from the throwbacks to the darks, because the darks work with the existing helmets.

Now...what the heck, nfl.com?

The Cowboys, admirably, are all about player safety. If they're all about the mental health of the fan base, we'd advise the Dallas defense -- which hasn't allowed fewer than 300 yards in a game since mid-October -- to take care of business before carving the Turducken.

So the dark blues as home jerseys? I like it, even if it's by force...maybe JJ will like the look?
I really think the darks are more intimidating in general and, but they are grown men, etc.

Looking around the league, having a uniform that "works" doesn't really appear to be a point of emphasis amongst the teams.

This would have been a perfect contingency plan.

The switch is that they will be wearing their blue "away" jerseys at home.

I like how ALL the blue colors match on the uniform Troy is wearing....I wonder if that's the 94 season?

This, in my opinion is one of the most boring topics that has EVER taken place in the NFL. I'm astounded everytime I see it spoken of.

This is the part I dont get...because they dont wear them often, they arent as well fitted as the normal ones? Since they are throw backs the NFL thinks they are made of leather? Has there been a spike of concussions while teams are wearing throwback helmets? o_O

They should be wearing their 1970's blue jersey and uniforms. They were classic and you wouldn't have to change the helmet.

1964, Cotton Bowl days were the last time the Cowboys wore their dark jersey at home.
