What's forgotten is the money. Romo may have asked for his release to remove any obligation to pay money back. He may trust Jerry, but the release makes it legal.

All things considered, I've got to believe the only way Romo would make a return to football is if Dak went down injured. Even then, it would be doubtful that the FO would allow that to happen. The chances for creating team dissention in the long run would be great.

Additionally, replacing another QB with a team other than the Cowboys would entail learning a totally strange system with unfamiliar players. That would not be a very promising formula for finding success. I think Tony's exodus to broadcasting is a make-it-or-break-it proposition, although his pleasant personality should stand him in good stead.

I'll be surprised if he's done . I figure Romo was tired of Jerry dangling him for a trade and didn't want to be a part of the Cowboys anymore so forced the issue and retired .

There's more money in coming back. But, the schedule is much easier and the money is still darn good at CBS. Plus, he can collect his pension. If you go back into football, that may ruin your announcing career as CBS had to give Simms the boot for Romo and I don't think they'll take too kindly to him saying 'uh, yeah you know that job you gave me sight unseen? I don't want it now.'

Don't go play for that you know what in Denver, Tony. If you've got to go somewhere go to Houston. It's close to home and I think Bill O'Brien is a respectable coach to play for.

The only way Romo would vacate this CBS gig is if Dak goes down late in the season and the Cowboys are already a lock for the playoffs. If Jerry asked nicely, yes I can see Romo doing the comeback.

By him not having to repay bonus money, that may have been Jerry's "severence pay" to him.

I don't see Romo coming back to help the Titans get to 8-8 on the season if Mariotta goes down or some other scenario like that.

Only way Romo comes back is if Dak tears an ACL or something and is gone for the season. Romo could then resign and step back into the offense without very much difficulty. He practically knows the offense inside and out and knows the personnel inside and out. The only issue would be his physical condition, but I would rather take a rusty Romo coming out of the broadcast booth in week 10 than noodle arm Moore who can barely throw it past the first down sticks.

Just saying.

Tony dropped a Brett Favre hint, no he's not done yet...

I can't imagine him ditching the CBS gig that has him potentially set for the next 20-30 years.... BUT I do find it strange that there was no teary, gushy retirement press conference with hugs with Jerry at the Star. Who knows.

He won't just say he's done so who's to say he's not saying "fly to Dallas and get me Bill O'Brien. I'm not a fan of training camp" like Childers did for Favre...

I agree. I'm not convinced either. We'll know after June 1st when the Cowboys lose his rights.

My instinct is Romo was tired of Jerry dangling him out there when everyone knew we were going to release him. This retirement forced this issue.

He will not be a Cowboy any longer but he didn't completely rule out returning if the right opportunity presents itself.

And if it doesn't he has set himself up with a great broadcasting gig although he's never expressed interest in being in the booth rather he's said he'd like to coach some day.

I truly doubt we've seen the end of Romo on the field in some capacity. This decision simply released him from Jerry's wrath.

I think it more likely he plays this year IF a starter goes down for a significant time given season context as well.

I'm curious why there was all this reported interest before FA opened up that Denver and Houston were interested in Romo.

Then when Jerry didn't release him holding out for a trade it all basically stopped.

Was all that speculation a hoax or did Jerry just pull the rug out not releasing him?
