If Edgerrin James does leave Indianapolis, Denver could be a possibility. The Broncos are looking for a playmaker, but landing James could be tough financially.

Don't get too caught up in rumors that the Broncos are interested in trading with Houston for the No. 1 overall pick. In an offseason that could include a major move - Terrell Owens or Ricky Williams - this is one blockbuster with little chance of developing. The Broncos won't have the salary cap room to absorb the top pick. Deals for players such as Owens or Williams would be easier to maneuver because of incentives.

Could Mike Martz and Kurt Warner have a reunion in Motown? Don't rule it out. Martz, the Detroit Lions' new offensive coordinator, patched up his relationship with Warner after their falling out in St. Louis.

Speculation has surfaced that the Bengals would consider trading Chad Johnson, but those rumors border on the absurd. With teammate Chris Henry facing a fine and suspension after two arrests, dealing Johnson to another club is out of the question.

One rumor that was making the rounds at the Pro Bowl is that Atlanta will try to trade T.J. Duckett. Duckett's career hasn't progressed and Warrick Dunn is the Falcons' starter. But Duckett has good size and is the kind of power runner that could fit Carolina's offense. Another rumor: The Panthers will make a play for Baltimore free agent running back Chester Taylor if DeShaun Foster signs elsewhere.

Associates and friends close to Ray Lewis have said that he doesn't want to play in Baltimore for the 2006 season, but GM Ozzie Newsome said the linebacker hasn't informed the team of any such intention.

The Ravens have had a discussion with the agents for Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed but have failed to reach common ground to produce a new multiyear contract for one of the NFL's best defensive players. The sticking point with Reed is that the Ravens want to make him one of the highest-paid safeties, but he wants to be compensated as one of the league's top defensive players. The difference is millions of dollars.

Terrell Owens has reached agreement with Banyan Productions for a new reality television series that will be hosted by the colorful athletic personality. Internet and mobile content based on the show's concept will also be created.

Dolphins receiver Chris Chambers, the person who would be most affected if the team added Terrell Owens said Saturday that contrary to a published report, he is not opposed to the idea. Chambers did say he probably would prefer to not change the chemistry the Dolphins developed during their six-game, season-ending winning streak.

Romeo Crennel might not announce a starting quarterback going into next training camp, but it's obvious the Browns want to develop Charlie Frye. They are happy with Trent Dilfer as a backup, and Dilfer is a tremendous supporter and teacher for Frye. So there are no plans to seriously tinker with quarterback.

Antonio Bryant is a free agent, but the Browns seem in no rush to sign him. Despite his 69 catches, they are not overwhelmed with the idea of keeping him for big money. They seem more interested in shopping for some veteran free-agent receivers. If Bryant leaves, they might bring in two.

Antwaan Randle El, who is a free agent and a hot commodity, said he is asking God whether he should stay with the Steelers or go to another NFL team. "I am not sure if this is where God wants me to continue to be or if he wants me to go elsewhere," he said. "I just have to keep praying about it."

The Jets' new regime might be less inclined to count on Chad Pennington's return. It appears the new idea is to acquire both a young quarterback and a veteran quarterback, not a bad thought. As they've learned, you can never have too many quarterbacks.

The Jets were going to look to trade John Abraham anyway. But the appointments of Eric Mangini and Mike Tannenbaum probably only increase the chances Abraham will go.

When owner Al Davis interviewed Art Shell before the Super Bowl, bringing back some of the Raiders' swagger was first on the agenda. "I say to Raider players, Raider fans, Raider ex-players and even to you, the press, we'll get that back," Davis said. "It may take a short while, but we'll get that nastiness of the Raiders back. It's one of the reasons I'm going to depend on the great Art Shell to help us get that done."
-- Oakland Tribune
The Raiders hiring of Art Shell could actually put the renegade team in good standing with the NFL. Long considered - much of it self fueled - an outlaw franchise that went against the league's direction, the Raiders and owner Al Davis are sure to get appreciation from the NFL office for its commitment to Shell.

The Browns are talking about an extension for running back Reuben Droughns, who has another year at $1.2 million on his contract. It could be tricky because his agent is the infamous Drew Rosenhaus, but Droughns has indicated that he wants to stay here. The Browns have been extremely pleased with the attitude and behavior of William Green. But they consider him a pure backup, a straight-ahead runner.

In announcing his decision to fire longtime agent Mason Ashe more than two weeks ago, Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper promised to take a more 'hands-on' approach with his career. Already a unique athlete, Culpepper is giving serious thought to bucking the NFL norm and becoming one of the rare players who represents himself.

It could cost the Vikings a $10 million bonus to re-sign receiver Koren Robinson.

Another former Jets' player like Bryan Cox who's being considered for an assistant coaching job on Eric Mangini's staff is former Jets' fullback Richie Anderson, who still might be hired.

Buffalo is expected to hire its second former Bears coach. Charlie Coiner, who served as assistant special teams coach the last two seasons, could be named tight ends coach.

Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey, who played much of the season wearing a harness on the left shoulder he dislocated in the season opener in Miami, said he won't need surgery in the off-season to repair the shoulder.

Bears defensive lineman Terry "Tank" Johnson was arrested for the second time in eight months early Sunday morning and charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
