The first three are especially stupid. The first two will be franchised, and frankly, although it sounds heartless, you can't gamble huge money and a guaranteed contract on a guy who just had cancer a year ago.

#4, the RB, isn't as good a player as Murry, so we sure as hell aren't going to pay him when we aren't certain he can take the starter's spot from McFadden.

Just a pathetic article....Does anyone actually think Von Miller could play DE in the 4-3 and be anywhere near as effective as in the 3-4? We already have a pair of DE's that would probably both be better at OLB.

You telling this fan straight up that he would be a great strong side linebacker that also rushed?

DWare was a pass rusher at Troy in a 4-3. That translates to being a 3-4 OLB depending on weight. DWare was a pass rusher in Parcells 3-4, Wade's 3-4 in Dallas and Denver. He was a RDE in Kiffin's 4-3. He was listed as a LB but that is not what his job was just like in Irvin's case. Irvin should go to a 3-4 team and rush the passer.

When I played at Texas A&I at linebacker, we all had to train, both with hand down - defensive end, and inside head up on the offensive tackle - as an interior linebacker.

great wish list not going to happen though. number on von miller will be franchised. Eric Berry is not leaving Kansas city.

There are a couple on that list plus secondary options which are definitely not pie in the sky. Weddle, Irvin, Trevathan, Forte, Miller, Morris, Jenkins, Aumakura are not impossible gets. Only Miller and Berry is dream casting.

And either are available if Cowboys are willing to pay the franchise tender costs. Highly unlikely is not impossible.

I didn't state that the example was one that I supported...but if nothing but insult is your point, find a fire plug.

The top candidates IS a constructive point to discussion depth of potential for consideration for free agency.

Only the player knows if it is realistic...and we don't know until he works some of the advantages that he possesses. That is between he and his agent...for starters.

Cornerback is a very pressing consideration this free agency period. Dallas either needs to retain two, or pick up two as well. Amukamara is a very solid cornerback. Not my preference as I have already stated. Give this fan Johnson and Claiborne on the cheap.

Linebackers are a semi flexible group depending on scheme and prior experience. D Ware started in college with his hand down.

In no way am I insulting you, my friend. If that's how you're reading it, then my apologies. I'm not here to throw stones, I'm here to talk about the Cowboys.

If anything, I was insulting the idea that the Cowboys could land all of these players. Two of them won't leave their original teams; I'd put money on that.

I completely agree about the cornerbacks, but I'm just not a fan of Prince. I'd rather have Trumaine Johnson or Janoris Jenkins. I'd spend the extra to get the better player. However you slice or, we NEED two more corners.

And we both know there's a big difference between A) switching from a 43 DE to 34 OLB -and- B) going from a 34 OLB to a 43 MLB.

The switch from scheme depends on skillsets and body types. Some people can switch effectively to both...some, not as easily. Body lean and explosive first step is highly value in a 3-4. If a MLB is kept 'clean' then he is fluid both inside and out. He has to wind up where the action is, clean.

As to the two cornerbacks, I would take your two here and now...and swallow up Ramsey, fixing the complete secondary in a single off season!

Oh, I agree on the probability of players needed in top notched defenses not likely seeing the light of day. That is where the tag becomes the friendly tool of a team. Those probably appear early in the process.

As to a discussion, it doesn't get much better than what you just provided...and I would use the term, friend, as well.

I stopped reading when I saw Von Miller listed...........HAAAAAAAABAAAAAAAAA

If there was ever a player that was a lock for the franchise tag, it is Miller...........no way in hell is Denver letting him test the market.

But there is the consideration that a ton of bills are coming due this very off season...we'll have to wait and see now that a Lombardi is on the table. Franchise is the probability, but what does that do to other prominent players on their roster? A prominent player may evolve into a similar role for the advantage of Dallas. Not at all out of the question at this point. What? Two franchise tags as well as a transition tag as well?

Not a fan of Prince either. Cowboys need more playmakers in secondary, that is not Prince. But that describes Jenkins to a "T". Not sure if Jenkins passes Marinelli's preference for hard hitting/sure tackling corners however.

Seriously, I would cut a nut off here and now, for the Cowboys to land both Johnson and Jenkins.

I think most of the positions are right. We need a vet DE. We need a second star LB. We need at least a complementary RB. We need at least a third CB (maybe a starter, too, depending on what we do with Carr. We could use a S.

Throw in a backup QB and a starting NT, too.

However, I don't think Dallas is going to be looking at paying big money to fill those spots. Maybe one splash signing and then a few contributors.

Most likely, we end up re-signing McClain, Carr stays and we don't do anything about RB until the draft.

That leaves us with vet DE, third CB (if not, then starting FS and Jones continues to play some corner and safety), backup QB and starting NT. So we bring in four outside FAs, with the splash possibly being backup QB (although I'd rather it be vet DE).

Not at all but if he's going to be replaced at least let the person be a MLB. Bruce Irvin at SLB and rush end in Nickel then ok.

I dont think having a Leo would hurt. In fact I remember we had alot of interest in Barr when he came out

NFL Free Agency: 5 Players Who Belong With the Cowboys
http://www.cheatsheet.com/sports/nfl-free-agency-5-players-who-belong-with-the-cowboys.html/?ref=YF

The Dallas Cowboys had a disappointing 2015 season, but are hoping to put together an impressive offseason that will set them up nicely for success in 2016. The question is, what do they need to do in order to be a team who has a serious chance to make a push at the Super Bowl? Well, there are plenty of areas the Cowboys should try to improve this offseason, but let’s look at a combination of both big-time names, as well as a few sleeper options in free agency.

For starters, it’s worth noting that Over The Cap currently has the Cowboys projected to have nearly $12 million in cap room for 2016. This number could increase with a few moves being made, and while we factor that in a bit, we aren’t going to let it control everything we do when selecting the five players who’d fit perfectly with the team in free agency. Let’s start it off with probably the biggest name out there.

1. Von Miller, outside linebacker

Since DeMarcus Ware left in 2014, the Cowboys have not had a pass rusher who’s been able to make a game-changing level of impact. Enter Von Miller, who will indeed wind up being the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, almost without question. It’s highly unlikely that he will leave the Denver Broncos, as they’d probably choose to franchise him before they decide to let him go. With that said, you can’t overlook what Miller would bring to the table for the Cowboys

2. Eric Berry, free safety

Dallas’ current safeties are J.J. Wilcox and Barry Church. Both showed glimpses of quality play last season, but neither is on Berry’s level, so it’d be interesting to see what would happen if Dallas chose to sign Berry — assuming he hits free agency. The Chiefs have quite a few tough decisions to make, but it seems more than likely that they’ll bring Berry back. If they do, the Cowboys could consider Eric Weddle, who would immediately help their secondary.

3. Lamar Miller, running back

So, the Cowboys aren’t completely set at running back and obviously going with just Darren McFadden in 2016 wouldn’t be the smartest move. So, how about a soon-to-be 25-year-old running back who doesn’t have a ton of carries in his NFL career but has produced at an impressive rate? Sounds like a match made in heaven behind Dallas’s offensive line. Lamar Miller has just 638 carries through four years, an average yard-per-carry of 4.6, and 16 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

He would be an absolutely stellar addition to Dallas’s backfield, and while Miami will want to keep him, it’s unknown if he’ll remain in town or choose to test free agency with rookie Jay Ajayi taking a chunk of his carries at the end of last season. The pairing of Lamar and the Cowboys almost makes too much sense, but that doesn’t mean Miami won’t be able to woo him and keep him in town. If they do, there are a few other interesting options at running back for Dallas.

4. Bruce Irvin, linebacker

If the Cowboys choose not to bring back Rolando McClain, Bruce Irvin would be a stellar replacement. Not only is he ridiculously athletic, but his ability to get to the quarterback can’t be overlooked. Basically, Irvin in Dallas would make a whole lot of sense, and seeing him play next to Sean Lee could help the Cowboys form one of the more talented, dynamic mixes at linebacker in the NFL.

If Irvin actually leaves Seattle this offseason, he will have quite a few teams interested in his services. One of those teams could be the Atlanta Falcons and his old coach Dan Quinn. The Cowboys will have competition for Irvin, but if Jerry Jones can do some persuading, there’s no reason to think Irvin wouldn’t choose to take his talents to Arlington.

If Irvin is not available: Danny Trevathan

5. Prince Amukamara, cornerback

If Prince Amukamara doesn’t return to New York, the Giants could see their talented cornerback playing for a division rival in 2016 and beyond. The Cowboys not only have Morris Claiborne heading to free agency, but they may choose to part ways with Brandon Carr sooner rather than later, too. If that does happen, there will be plenty of holes to fill at cornerback. Even if Dallas holds on to Carr, don’t be surprised to see them make a run at Amukamara.

Obviously, it’s likely that the Cowboys would make a serious push at Carolina’s Josh Norman first, should he become a free agent, but there’s almost no chance that the Panthers will let that happen. For what it’s worth, Amukamara would be one heck of an option B, or technically 1A, for the Cowboys. If both options end up being unavailable, there’s still another intriguing cornerback to watch for: Janoris Jenkins.

Miller and Prince could be strong possibilities. The Tag would be too rich for them so I dont think they see that.

I'm still hoping we kick the tires on Tashaun Gipson. Young and on the rise. Berry, Norman, nor Miller are getting out of their respective teams. The franchise tag is a lead pipe lock for all three.

I like LMiller or DMartin at RB1
Weddle or Gipson at FS (keep BJones at CB1)
Fairley or Knighton at 1T
McCown or RGIII at QB2

An upgrade at SAM is needed but I don't think it is Irvin
