NFL Gamepass streaming games issue

Hey guys,

For the past couple years, I've paid/subscribed to NFL Gamepass and been able to watch games by use of a free vpn application called TunnelBear. I would enable the vpn, login to gamepass, start the game, and then disable the vpn to get better internet streaming speed. I never went over my allotted free usage for the vpn application in this way either.

When I tried this past week however, it seems the NFL has updated Gamepass and now the way I was doing it is not working. As soon as I disable the vpn software, it stops playing and says unavailable like it's checking your IP location all the time. Has anyone else experienced this? Any other ways to get around it?

Thanks!

Interesting idea with your vpn, I have noticed the lock-down of the cowboys games of late and have had difficult time finding downloads of our games. Interested in others experiences...

Same here. I've been using the same VPN (StrongVPN) with Game Pass International for about 5 seasons and what you just described started this year for me, too. I have to keep the VPN connected the whole game, which isn't really a big deal but it slows down some of the net-surfing I do during breaks.

Also, this year the video player sucks. So many functions are gone. There are no more options for different broadcast audios. It doesn't have a separate tab for a breakdown of all of the highlight plays. Also, you can no longer skip forward/back in 10 second intervals using the cursor. Instead, you can only skip backward clicking on the player. Basically, it went from being a control center to watch all game action and got dumbed down into a netflix video player for the purpose of saving a buck.

Next year, I might dabble with reddit streams because I'm not liking the direction Game Pass is going with their product.

Reddit NFL streams have been getting better and better each year. You can sometimes find Youtube mirror games on there that are very smooth and of course in HD. Even the normal streams run pretty good and rarely require refreshing... if I find myself having to refresh I generally pick a different stream. The only thing I worry about is the pop-ups/viruses, but I've been using an old laptop to do this kind of streaming.

It's arguably easier to watch whatever NFL game you want from a country other than the US, so that's good for you. I don't know which country you're in, but Canada for example can get DAZN which has Ticket, Gamepass, and RedZone for $20 a month. That's a pretty good deal I would say

Keeping the vpn on made the streaming quality choppy and poor for me. Does it stream smoothly for you with StringVPN? What's you internet speed at your house? Wondering if there's another way around this. Otherwise I'll be using reddit streams too.

I got an email a week or two ago that said they were giving a 20% refund because of the issues Gamepass was having I guess.

Without a VPN, I get 100mbs but with StrongVPN I get about 15mbs. At some points in the game the quality will get kinda cruddy (like watching a youtube video on 240p). That another function we lost with this new game pass version: you can't lock in what video quality you want. So if you are having an up and down internet speed, you could set it to 480p and let it run smoothy. Instead, the new game pass always hunts for the highest quality and when your download speeds drop, it will kick you all the way down from 1080p to 240p in an instant. Annoying.

Yep, I just got an e-mail saying they are going to refund me $36. There must have been a lot of complaints about the quality of Game Pass, so much that they've resorted to pay-offs!

I don't want the money..I want them to fix this crap, to roll it back into what it was before this year. Game Pass is completely neutered, now, and I don't think I'm using it again next year. Damn shame.
