NFL History made according to ESPN - 16-11 first ever final score

Ever since they went to 2-point conversions, we see something like this every once in a while because scores like 11 points were so rare before 2 point conversions were implemented. Ironically, the 11 points Tennessee scored was by way of a safety plus 3 field goals, not an 8-point touchdown plus a field goal.

I remember ESPN made a similar note about Super Bowl 45, which was the 1st 31-25 final score in NFL history then again in Super Bowl 48, which was the first 43-8 final score in history (with each of those games having successful 2 point conversions in play).

Holy smokes that is a lot of missing scores!
I know, right?

That list has 372.
If we get rid of all the 2's, 4's and 5's, we're down to 237.
If we also get rid of the 8's and 11's, we're down to 194. That's still a lot.
26-25? That would be a good game. So would 35-29.
On the other hand, 39-6 would be a stinker.

Some of them are highly unlikely to ever happen. I can't imagine a scenario where a team wins 8-4 for example. If a team scored a late touchdown to go up they would always go for 1 point instead of two so that score implies that that game would be scored with either 6 safeties or a two field goals and 3 safeties. Both of which are so unlikely I doub't I'll ever see it. But really, an 8-4 game scored only with safeties would be incredibly awesome.

And of course no score of any team having just "1" is possible. Too bad :D

College football actually has a one point play, but the NFL functionally banned it by now allowing the defense to have possession of a live ball on an extra point. It's hard to explain just watch:

Yes, but it's scored by the offense that has just scored a TD, so it's still impossible for a team to score only one point.

It's absurdly unlikely, of course, but there are more likely ways for it to happen than what you propose.

1. Team A scores a safety, making it 2-0. Team B scores a 4th-quarterTD, going up 6-2. At this point, Team B would (or should) go for 2: there's no difference between being up by 5 vs. 4, but there's a small advantage to being up 6. So now it's 8-2, and a safety at the end (possibly an intentional one by Team B) gets us to the final score. Hmm, now that I think about it, that could totally happen.

2. The other way is simply that Team B Romos the snap on the extra point but manages to salvage a 2-point conversion out of it.
