An allegation that Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston groped an Uber driver in March 2016 is under review by the NFL.

Talal Ansari of BuzzFeed News reported on Friday that the driver received a letter from NFL special counsel for investigations Lisa Friel informing her that the league has heard about the allegations and “opened an investigation into this matter.” A spokesperson for the NFL told PFT on Friday that the matter is under review and that the NFL has reached out to Uber to request any information they may have.

The driver, identified only as Kate, says that she picked up Winston around 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13 in Scottsdale, Arizona and that Winston sat in the front passenger seat next to her. She says Winston asked to get food at a drive-thru restaurant and, per the driver, Winston “reached over and he just grabbed my crotch” while they were waiting for it to be delivered. She claims Winston held his hand there for three to five seconds.

She reported the incident to Uber, but told Ansari she did not go to police because she was afraid of negative backlash if she went that route. In a statement to BuzzFeed News, a spokesperson for Uber said “the rider was permanently removed from the app shortly after we learned of the incident.

This is not the first time that Winston has been accused of sexual impropriety. In 2016, he settled a civil suit filed by a woman who accused him of raping her in 2012 while he was at Florida State. He was never charged with a crime by Tallahassee, Florida police in that matter.

The fact that he is permanently banned from Uber seems to give credibility to her story. Her employer certainly believed her.

It is a circumstantial piece of evidence in her favor. Already more than anything they had on Zeke.

In March and we're just now hearing about it? If he were a Cowboy the story would have been all over the media before police could write up the report.
To be fair, I believe the accuser has just gone public with it.

I remember his comment relative to an alleged rape charge while in college that she (victim) “moaned” during intercourse or something to that effect, meaning it could not have been rape. I am sure he has a defense ready in this case, too.

And this is the can of worms the Zeke case has opened up. There are no cameras in a persons uber and would clearly be his word against hers. Now any NFL players can be accused of anything from a woman and taken to the cleaners.

Guilty or not he deserves to be suspended 6 games.

Right Roger?
The assumption in Zeke case was that the accuser was telling the truth, regardless of what the actual evidence was.

Assuming the same criteria, Winston should get the same judgement Zeke got. We will see.

The NFL has become entertainment for me again, if anything, just for this reason alone.

I thought Uber people were supposed to ride in the back? Pretty sure when I looked at being a driver that was stated, and is a reason you had to have a 4-door vehicle.

This sounds like an opportunity for Jerry to bring an NFL owner over to his side. If Glazer supports him, he can make public statements that he hopes Goodell will treat Winston fairly in the investigation. If he doesn't, Jerry will be talking very loudly to the press that there is already more evidence against Winston than there is against Zeke, therefore he needs to be suspended.

Time to start playing hardball with these other owners.
