NFL Is urged To Investigate Officiating Crew From Dallas Cowboys at Detroit Lions Game

The receiver clearly did NOT take a 3rd step before the ball was knocked out. Not a catch.

Do I need to take over this thread too after making Ronnie look like a fool in the other one? Whole lotta whining, zero rule knowledge.

But if this catch was near the edge, no steps would be needed, just 2 toes. My son is watching it. He points out 2 feet down, possession. He sees a TD. His team takes a lead. Good luck explaining that it somehow wasn't a catch. I couldn't.

I don't know why this game's bad calls are more controversial than every games bad calls. Bad calls/ non-calls have always been part of the game. I assume the league prefers it this way which is why many can't be challenged.

I'm sure there are some refs, though probably not many, who let their biases affect their performances. But as a whole, I don't believe the NFL scripts the games, or decides who they want to win.

The owners make soooooo much more money because of Jerry Jones, so why would they want to punish the Cowboys?
The NFL didn’t like JJ suing them over licensing many years ago and didn’t like when JJ was only owner against Goodell’s contract.

Yeah that was a textbook drop

Both feet alone is never a catch. The part you’re missing is the football move is not required to be inbounds. It’s not intended to be an extra song and dance in the field of play, just a continuation of confirming possession after both feet, which can happen in bounds or out of bounds.

If the receiver toe taps and then immediately loses the ball like on this play it’s incomplete. But if he toe taps and then falls out of bounds & survives the ground, or he gets a third foot down out of bounds that’s good.

I thought this might be click bait so researched it online and got the following. Still seems a bit short on detail (like - who did the ordering!) to me so no idea.

The NFL has been urged to investigate the officiating crew from the recent game between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions due to several controversial calls that significantly impacted the game's outcome. Critics, including former referees and sports commentators, have expressed concerns over missed penalties and questionable decisions made during the match.

Investigation into Officiating Crew

The NFL has been directed to investigate the officiating crew that managed the recent game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions. This decision follows widespread criticism regarding several controversial calls made during the match, which ended with the Lions defeating the Cowboys 44-30.

Key Controversies

  • Offensive Pass Interference Call: A critical moment occurred late in the game when Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was penalized for offensive pass interference. This call was heavily criticized, with commentators and analysts stating they did not see any interference on the play. The penalty was declined by the Lions, which forced the Cowboys to settle for a field goal instead of a potential first-and-goal situation.
  • Missed Calls: The officiating crew also faced backlash for failing to call a clear offsides penalty against the Cowboys earlier in the game, which led to the Lions punting instead of capitalizing on a potential big play.

Reactions

The officiating has drawn ire from fans and analysts alike, with many expressing concerns over the integrity of the game. Some fans even suggested that the referees were favoring the Cowboys, leading to accusations of biased officiating. Prominent figures in sports media have labeled the officiating as a "disaster," calling for accountability and improvements in officiating standards.

Which team is PO'd?

The incessant whining about the refs after every game is getting obnoxious. People watch a game and think the refs are biased or the game is fixed. But if you watch all the games you realize the refs are just bad. There are terrible calls in every game and the teams don't matter. This doesn't make it better. It makes it worse. The league has to do something to fix this.

I would go back to instant replay for PI calls, offensive and defensive. The last time they tried this the league seemed afraid to overturn the refs on the field. Almost no calls were overturned. So they did away with replays for PI. That was dumb. They should use replay in conjunction with the refs on the field, only be honest instead of using replay to back up the refs.

Post #64 covered the answer but the different circumstances are why most fans don't know the rules they rail against and why situations like the Dez no-catch get blown out of proportion when it was the correct call. "Should be" is a different story but by the rules that exist, most times people twist themselves in knots for something that was correct all along.

This week is a mini bye week, since they don't have to play until next week.
Yes, it is going forward. But that was a brutal stretch. I don’t know what happened to the defense against Detroit. I guess it didn’t help letting them start at almost midfield every drive.

That offsides was insane. It couldn't have been any more clear. Even if it benefited us, that was a TERRIBLE missed call.

There are often controversies involving refs, and unfortunately, human error is always going to be part of this game. Look at the Ravens game yesterday: Baltimore fans are livid over a weird erasure of a touchdown, plus a questionable call on a roughing penalty.

Not going to change the outcome..........

I think they should review any controversial call. a lot of them are can be overturned quickly.

Dak was sacked in the end zone. It was a safety and the refs just made it go away. Ive heard none of you mention it.
Absolutely not They had a perfect angle because they look at like 12 shots some of them aren't shown to the fans on the regular playbacks but it was shown about one minute after all that calm down and the offenses were lining up again They actually showed the visual of the football outside of the line and that's what they used so maybe you weren't watching the game, i'm betting you didn't watch the game but I have it on my phone but I'm not going to post in here because it would take a lot of effort to get it onto my computer and then get it to a 3rd party so I can post it here but I promise you It was settled one minute after the call. It was very clear that at one point Prescott forward momentum was stopped with the ball the full ball outside of the line so maybe you ought to check before you bring up a topic that's wrong....

Did you see the replay from the second angle? The ball was clearly out of the end zone.
Apparently, he didn't watch the game because one minute after the call they showed it and then it's been all over the Internet I have pictures of it on my phone it was clearly out of the end zone..

Here's the problem with officiating the officials and saying there might be some conspiracies they are just that bad the game is so fast there's not enough of them on the field and they're told not to ruin games by calling everything they can call because there is probably a penalty on every play there's holding on every play Some of these pass interference calls are Gray areas but they can call them all but instead they choose to call the ones they feel like that's where the subjective problem is with officiating..

When they get to make the decisions on when to throw the flag and when not to and most of the time there is a penalty on the play but hey they should look at this it was their hand fighting did both players have contact let them play play through it then you don't call it a penalty just let it go I'd have been happy if they just let that go with Ferguson if they felt there was contact by both guys it was clear that Ferguson was interfered with the problem here for me is if he wasn't interfered with would he have caught that ball...

Don't know if he would have now if it if the scenario was different and he caught the ball and it was a touchdown called back over clearly what should have been a DPI but they called an OPI then I'd have been a little bit upset but they didn't catch the ball I'm pretty sure it was forked out and they were going to kick the field goal anyway..

I have less of a problem with that one there are a lot of those in games they're Gray areas they get to choose which ones to call and that is where the problem is...

Maybe we need less rules and less refs less officials and just let them play as long as it's not egregious where your clotheslining guys again trying to break their arms and snap their knees off then maybe you should just let them play you know unless they get dragged down like on a holding inside the box you know between the offense and defensive lineman unless a guy is literally ripped down to the ground just don't call it at all..

I don't know if there's a conspiracy but they do have control not necessarily who wins and loses but they can make sure a game stays at the pace they want it and at the point differential that they want it and they used to call that point shaving in basketball and other sports I guess but I just remember basketball it's so easy to miss baskets and point shave and still have your team win but you can make sure Vegas wins and the better is either win or lose therein lies the problem..

Instant replay over-turned it. The tv replay originally shown was not the goal-line camera so the angle gave a distorted view. The last replay they showed was the goal-line camera and showed that Dak was barely out when the defender made contact.
Think it's ironic that it almost shows who didn't watch the game and who only watched the box scores and listened to ESPN or NFL Network So they they're listening to opinions because one minute after that call was made they literally showed the angle on national TV of why they were right the referees got that one right...

“Ordered”? “Directed?” Was it by an upset fan or by a YouTuber drama starter? Did they send in a ***BLOCKED*** request like the guy who asked the government to build a Deathstar?

Here’s a novel thought: the NFL makes the same money whether Dallas or Detroit wins. If they wanted to make more, they’d get Dallas into more playoff games. This isn’t refs fixing games, this is just reffing being really really hard. If Thursday’s game was too much to handle, then football isn’t for you.
