We all know QB rating don't tell the whole story. But they do, on average, give us an idea of how players stack up to their peers in the same era.

With that in mind, here are the QB ratings of the current NFL backups.
It's pretty amazing how similarly JAG they are.

EJ Maunuel won a game, Mike Vick won a game, Matt Hassleback won a game, McCoy beat Dallas last year...Sanchez blew the doors off Dallas last year....our backups are not WINNING games. That is the problem! And blame whomever you want....but we are on a 5 game losing streak....and there is enough talent to win a game in that lockeroom....and if we lose every game without Romo....that is an indictment on someone other than the players....because other teams win games with their backups!

AZ__Stanton__71.5
Ind__Hassleback__82.5

Cassell is 0-2 as a starter
Weeden is 0-4 as a starter (last year's Cards game)
Sanchez went 4-4 last year as a starter last year
Stanton went 5-3 as a starter last year
Hasselbeck is 2-0 as a starter this year

But apparently it's pretty bizarre for Cowboys fans to expect that Garrett could squeeze out just even one win in the last 5 games with a backup QB.

We had Brad "noodle arm" Johnson as a back-up. That was a disaster, so Jerry made a trade for Kitna and then signed Orton--both of who could win games in this league. Then, someone got the not so bright idea that Weedone could be a viable back-up. Someone's head should roll on that one.

but it is impossible for Jason Garrett to win with a backup QB.

I know you're being sarcastic, but this proves that Jason Garrett isn't half the coach that everybody thought he was. I'm not saying that he should have won all of these games with a back up quarterback, but with the talent we have you have to find a way to win a couple of them. It falls 90% on his shoulders

Especially since every single one of those games was winnable, except NE.

He wasn't as experienced as a coach then, which was good.

He was coaching a team that had nothing to play for that could go out and throw caution to the wind and he had a very good back up QB in Jon Kitna. He was able to win a game with Stephen McGee due to Philly resting all their starters for the playoffs.

Pretty sure most everyone here expected us to win at least one by now.

Was there really someone that thought we'd go 0-5 with the backups?

This is more about the people today claiming that we can't hold the staff accountable for being 0-5 with back up QBs. That's its unfair to criticize Garrett for this stretch because he has to play back up QBs and that he has to play conservative because of back up QBs.

I think even the most diehard Garrett lovers didn't think we would go 0-5 but now that we have, it's time to find excuses for him.

its not bizarre. We all want the team to win. But These guys you listed, come on. Those teams all stepped up around their QB. Special Team and D carried the Eagles the majority of the year, same in Arizona, Stanton with his 55% completion rate was not winning those games. Hasselbeck played the Texans and the Jags, not exactly elite level QB opposition.

In our 5 Game streak we have faced, M. Ryan, D. Brees, Tom Brady, Eli and Russel Wilson. 4 of 5 are SB winning QBs. That makes a difference. When you are trotting out back up QB, No #1 WR and several other injuries and suspensions. But the team could have and should have won 3 of those games, even with the odds stacked against them.

But it all comes down to this:

We haven't made the plays that needed to be made to win the games. Against the Saints, a blown coverage, Against the Gnats a special team meltdown and agains the hawks, D couldn't get a stop when they needed to. We can blame the coaches, the owner, the football gods whatever makes you feel better... But at some point, the players have to play and they have to make the plays that are there for them to make.

You can say the coaching staff is bad and use names like clown clapper or whatever, but the fact it, the team was in a position to win almost every game but the players didn't execute when they needed to. The coaches can only put the players in a position to win. The players have to step up and seize the moment. So far, we haven't done that.
