The previous rule was the oddest thing about the NFL.
Of course, you give each offense (and defense) a chance to play in Overtime.

Every team has its strength, but if you get two teams where by far their greatest strength is offense, then, literally a coin flip easily could decide a game. It certainly did this year with Buffalo/KC

Seems so insanely simple.

Good for them

The same people crying that both teams should get a chance to possess the ball in OT are the same people crying about giving out participation trophy's in sports.

Leave the rule alone you had 4 quarters to get it done, you had a chance to hold the other team to a FG in OT instead of letting them score a TD.

They're slowly changing the rules to how college football OT is played. Pretty soon they'll be spotting the ball on the opposing team's 25 yard to begin possession!! LOL

why shouldn't it be changed? when the luck of the coin flip can determine the outcome of a close game.

I'd rather the owners fighting it out in a cage match at mid-field. We could win with either outcome. Death by fight or a win.

Wanna fix overtime? How about this.....coin flip. Winner gets choice to go first or last....both kickers get one kick. Longest FG wins.

Would save the players from getting injured.

Keep games short...

Still have sudden death for one team or the other.

Then we should have kept Greg the Leg. He can make a 56 yard FG, but miss those shorter FG's from the 30's-40's range! :muttley:

about time. its a good change. I am ok with it only being in playoffs as results are win or go home so give both teams a chance, and a coin toss doesn't decide the winner.....during the season it may not matter as much...yes, yes yes, final records and win/losses against common opponents, etc, make a difference in who makes playoffs, but its less impactful and it all depends. you have 17 games to prove you belong. perhaps after a couple of years they extend it to regular season
