We sit here after 2 weeks of the emotional rollercoaster which is Cowboys football, and this forum is filled with optimism, hope, pessimism, belief, mixed with animosity, and sometimes anger. The Coaches have been slammed for their game planning, the O-line for their Blocking, EE for being a wasted 4th round pick and fumbling 2 times, Dez not getting the ball, the defense looking like swiss cheese. Yet here we are at 1-1 and I will argue we could easily be 2-0 since IMO we gave that game to the Giants with our 2 dropped TD's but thats another story.

In the same breath i can see the argument that we could just as easily be 0-2 which is true to an extent. I would just argue that we as Cowboys fans have more to be hopeful for then most teams around the league here is my reasoning behind this thinking.

1) Dak - Is the real deal and we have i believe found our future replacement for Romo when he hangs them up. He has set a NFL record! beating Warren Moon's 72 pass attempts without an interception and he played i think 6 years in the CFL before he took a snap so i would argue he wasn't a rookie. Dak is already at 75 and going strong with Chicago coming up. Great Job Rookie.

2) Our defense will get a nice boost when we get Lawrence and Gregory back after week 4. Skins and Giants were basically at full strength when we played and we beat one and could have sealed the deal in the other.

3) The defense with all its faults as held 2 high powered passing attacks to 23 points and 20 points - we kept OBJ, Reed, Garcon, all in check from having big days. The defense is bending but also not breaking. They are keeping us in every game without a Romo led offense attack and missing our 2 best defensive lineman. Not to mention the improved play of the secondary.

4) I dont know about most of you but last year i knew we were gonna lose every week without Romo and Dez, now i feel way different this year because each week Dak is improving.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now having said this above i would like to point out a few things ! IMO only one team as clearly played head and shoulders good enough to be 100% 2-0 that team would be the Steelers they dominated the Skins and easily dispatched the Bengals yesterday! Props to them.

I would also give credit to the Panthers who lost a game they probably should have won in Denver but they came back in week 2 to demolish the 49ers. Cardinals lost a close one to the Pats but annihilated the Bucs in week 2.

I will also argue that here IMO are all the teams that could also easily be 0-2 just like we could be:

Packers ( Jacksonville had that game in week 1 and they lost to Vikes)
Raiders ( huge gamble week 1 for the win and lost this week )
Chiefs ( massive comeback in week 1 lost week 2)
Bengals ( should have lost to the jets in week 1 lost to steelers in week 2)
Cowboys ( could have blown the skins game and did lose week 1 to the gmen)
Rams ( destroyed week one could have easily lost the Seahawk game )
Giants ( they are 2-0 but both games were edge of your seat thrillers could have went either way)
Lions ( wild close win week 1 vs colts and 3 called back td's due to penalties in week 2 in their loss)
Colts ( could have beaten the lions week 1 and lost clearly to the broncos)
Falcons ( got destroyed week one vs bucs and held on vs the raiders could have lost that one )
Seahawks ( could easily have lost week one got lucky end of the game lost week 2 to rams )

Take the flip side of the argument and there are alot of teams that could easily be 2-0

Cowboys ( had the giants )
Packers ( close game vs vikes )
Chargers ( blew massive lead vs chiefs )
Panthers ( blew close one in Denver)
Broncos ( are 2-0 )
Lions ( 3td's called back to penalties vs the titans they gave the game away)
Giants ( are 2-0 )
Saints ( lost 2 close games )
Jets ( lost to bengals but shouldn't have )

Looking at the other teams and the way games around the league have unfolded:
Lion Penalties crippling offenses
Risks taken by teams that worked out raiders
Rams not scoring any td's yet
Seahawks offense looks horrible
Chargers D blowing huge leads
Broncos D still looks great
Jags look great vs packers lay an egg in week 2
Vikes getting decimated by injuries yet D keeping them in it.
etc etc

After looking at everything around the league some of these other teams have just as many problems as us but also don't have the same luxuries we do!

Our team is playing steady and i believe we have more to look forward to, because help is coming since we are getting some of our best players back in a few weeks not to mention we have some very winnable games coming up which could put Romo in a great position going forward.

NFL Parity at its finest ! So looking at the big picture i really like where the cowboys are at. Having a really good defensive leaning draft in 2017 is gonna go a long way!

I would argue that on point 3 the defense hasn't done anything special. Neither the Giants nor the Commanders have scored many points in their other 2 games this year. The Giants only had 16 pts against NO and 7 of them came from a blocked kick returned for a TD. The Skins had only 16 points against the Steelers in week 1.

So both of those offenses have scored more against us than they did in the other games they played. Our defense hasn't collapsed, but it needs to look much better going forward or things could get very ugly.

I definitely agree with you but could you image being a chargers fan and blowing a 30 point lead ! or a rams fan and after 2 games not having a td yet. We have players coming back that should help our issues how many other teams can say that

There is no big picture 2 games in.

Big picture comes Thanksgiving unless you're record dictates otherwise.

Especially in the East, 5 losses doesn't place you out of playoff contention at that point.

Great read. I agree the season is young but I think Dallas is the only team to play 2 division games to start the season. Same thing last season. Division games are much tougher and now we have a few weeks to play out of division. When division games come back around we will be much improved.

Long season still to go

But our defense will get better. D Law is back in 2 weeks. Not only that we have some very young players that are developing. LBs seem to be the biggest hole but they aren't horrible like some suggest. They are average. Our offense is young and improving as well

and next year with Jaylon Smith hopefully ready to go we already have a defensive playmaker coming on board

I agree that it will get better. In addition to getting DLaw back we might get Gregory to add to the rotation. But right now our D is clawing and fighting just to stay in games against the Giants and Skins, neither of whom have done anything outside of playing us. So it's still a concern (as it has been forever).

Teams starting the season.....

0-2, 12% chance to make the playoffs.
1-1, 43%
2-0, 61%

Or is that 41% & 63%.... Anyway, those are the stats. If you beleive in all of that....
So this win was huge, no matter how they won it, it is huge.

Also heard today, since the Commanders started 0-2 with both home losses. The last team to do this and make the playoffs. The 2003 Eagles.

But agree, if you are around 5 losses, about .500 ball at T-Day week. In the East, you are in contention.
If we can win the next 2 games, it will be huge wins. As then we have the Bengals, and at GB, which both after 2 weeks, don't look all that tough. Not yet anyway.

Thanks for posting.

The stuff about Dak breaking Moon's rookie record is wrong though. Not your fault, but someone posted this incorrectly a while ago and people have been running with it.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MoonWa00/gamelog/1984/

Moon went though his first 3 games without a pick--so that was 103 attempts. He had his 1st pick sometime in game 4 but I'm not sure on what attempt.
So Moon had somewhere between 103 and 131 attempts before a pick.
He also had 3 or 4 TDs in that span

10 teams in nfc are 1-1 and 1or 2 more after after phil game tonight.
So 12 of 16 teams could be 1-1 after 2 games.

only 2 teams in nfc at 2-0, if phil wins they would be 3rd team.
So only 2-3 teams in nfc have a better record than dallas.
Funny thing is 2 of them are nfc east teams !!!!!!!!!!!

AFC has more 2-0 teams but only 4.
They have less 1-1 teams 6

Whole nfc west is 1-1, dont remember seeing that before, usually 1 is 2-0 or 0-2
So they are all tied after 2 games!

Oh yeah. Huge win especially with what trots out onto the field. 2 rooks and a bunch of no-name D-lineman..................HUGE divisional win.

You're missing the point. As Dak has only played 2 games, the comparison is a 2 game comparison. Next week there can be a 3rd game comparison, and the following week can be a 4th game comparison.

I didn't put Gregory in because I'm not sure when he will be available. Plus he has missed all of training camp. If he comes back after 4 games I think he will help especially last half of season.

Giants and Commanders are division opponents that we started a rookie QB and RB in. We were 1 or 2 plays away from being 2-0. Division games are tough no matter the records, playing them with rookies is even more challenging. All I can ask of my team is to fight, hate to lose but 1-1 isn't bad
