Bills Fill Six Practice Squad Spots
by Chris Brown, Lead Journalist Last Updated: 9/3/2006 3:24 PM ET

The Buffalo Bills filled the majority of their eight-man practice squad signing back six players they released just 24 hours ago.

Those players are Eric Bassey, Brad Cieslak, Fred Jackson, Jason Jefferson, Ryan Neill and George Wilson.

Bassey, Jackson and Neill are all rookie free agents while Cieslak, Jefferson and Wilson are all former undrafted free agents.

The Bills thus far have split their practice squad players down the middle with three players for the offensive side of the ball and three for the defense.

Wilson had the best preseason of the current members on this year's practice squad, but was playing at the team's most competitive position.

Neill has shown good instincts and has long snapping ability.

Jefferson is a player with some experience and he's familiar with the system after going through the spring and summer. If one defensive tackle goes down with a lengthy injury he will be needed on the active roster.

Cieslak is a capable tight end that needed to be a bit more consistent in the preseason, but is a good reserve nonetheless.

And Bassey is a physically gifted cornerback that just needs more seasoning.

There are still two spots open on the Bills practice squad. Head coach Dick Jauron addressed when those remaining two spots would be filled.

“By Wednesday at the latest,” said Jauron. “I don’t know if we’ll have them done by (Monday).”

Jauron said the organization had two people in mind for those remaining spots.

Dolphins Sign Jacox, Waive Rader, Place Toledo On IR; Sign Eight To Practice Squad
September 3, 2006
September 3, 2006-The Dolphins today signed eight-year veteran offensive lineman Kendyl Jacox as a free agent. In addition, the team waived tight end Jason Rader and placed tackle Joe Toledo on injured reserve.

The Dolphins today also signed the following eight players to the practice squad: wide receiver Fred Gibson, running backs Kay-Jay Harris and Gerald Riggs, Jr., tight end Keith Heinrich, cornerback Shirdonya Micthell, linebacker Matt Sinclair, tackle Orrin Thompson and wide receiver/quarterback/specialist Marcus Vick. All eight were with the Dolphins in training camp this year before being waived on Saturday.

The 6-2, 325-pound Jacox has spent the last four seasons (2002-05) with the New Orleans Saints after starting his career with San Diego in 1998. He was released by the Saints on March 17, 2006. In his eight previous seasons, the 31-year-old Jacox has played in 113 games, including 85 starts. Last year with the Saints, he opened all 15 games in which he appeared, including 13 at left guard and two at center. Jacox first made the Chargers’ roster as an undrafted college free agent in 1998, and went on to start six of the 16 games in which he played during his rookie season, all at right guard. Since that time, he has seen extensive action at all three interior positions along the offensive line. He has started all 16 games on two occasions. In 2001, he opened every contest at center for San Diego as rookie LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 1,236 yards. The following year – his first with the Saints – he started every game at left guard as Deuce McAllister rushed for an NFC-high 1,388 yards. Jacox earned first-team All-Big 12 accolades as a senior at Kansas State. He is a native of Dallas, Texas where he attended Carter High School. He was born on June 10, 1975.

White, McCune, Espy Join Practice Squad
By Gary Fitzgerald
Commanders.com
September 3, 2006

The Commanders named their eight-member practice squad on Sunday afternoon, adding a group of players who spent time with the team through off-season work and training camp.
The Commanders' practice squad is as follows:

WR Mike Espy
DB John Eubanks
WR Steven Harris
DT Vaka Manupuna
LB Robert McCune
OL Chris Pino
DE Joe Sykes
FB Manuel White, Jr.

In addition, linebacker Philippe Gardent will spend the season on the team's practice squad as part of the NFL's International Development Practice Squad Program.

With the Commanders keeping five wide receivers on the roster, coaches decided to keep two more on the practice squad. Both undrafted rookie Mike Espy and first-year player Steven Harris impressed in preseason games.

Offensive lineman Chris Pino, an undrafted rookie and developmental player, will work with Joe Bugel's group. Beyond Molinaro and Tyson Walter, the Commanders do not have anyone else who can back up at tackle, where Pino played most of the preseason.

Manuel White, Jr., spent last season on injured reserve due to a fractured fibula injury. He was the Commanders' fourth-round draft choice in 2005.

Robert McCune begins the season on the practice squad. He alternated between the roster and practice squad last season. McCune, a fifth-round draft pick in 2005, has experience on special teams and mostly played middle linebacker.

Defensive linemen Joe Sykes and Vaka Manupuna, a pair of undrafted rookies, impressed coaches in preseason. They will continue to develop their skills under defensive coordinator-defensive line coach Greg Blache.

Undrafted rookie cornerback John Eubanks is a developmental player who can also return kickoffs, if necessary.

On Saturday, [wide receiver Brian] Clark was waived. A day later he and seven of his teammates who were also waived in recent days were back with the Broncos, re-signed after passing through waivers to comprise the club's eight-man practice squad.

Clark will be joined by cornerback Jeff Shoate, running back Damien Nash, quarterback Preston Parsons, linebacker Cameron Vaughn, defensive tackles Antwon Burton and Amon Gordon and center/guard Rob Hunt -- who was released at the first cutdown Tuesday.

Dolphins Sign Jacox, Waive Rader, Place Toledo On IR; Sign Eight To Practice Squad

The Dolphins today also signed the following eight players to the practice squad: wide receiver Fred Gibson,

I remember Fred Gibson being the better WR at U of Georgia over Reggie Brown. Gibson, in his second year, is sitting on the PS while Reggie Brown is supposed to be the Eagles #1 WR. I know players don't develop the same making the transition but I'd be willing to be that Brown would also be on the PS if he were drafted by the Dolphins. JMO
