Well, the teams with winning records could beat them.

NFL is happy. A losing team can still enjoy keeping their fans involved and interested.

I'm for 9-7 being the minimum standard to win your division and advance.

Win your division and host a game.
End of story.

Now should the NFL add a team in each conference and have only one top seed in each have a bye.

I say yes.

oh noes! A 7-8-1 team hosted a playoff game!!! This has happened twice in 13 years!!! We obviously have to rehaul the entire system!!!

when a fish stinks enough you get rid of it; you do not say "Oh it only stinks once in a while."

Cute phrase but it is ridiculous to think that the frequency with which something happens has no impact on whether or not they should make a major change to the system.

Sorry, but the fact that this happens so rarely is indeed a factor in the decision making process.

It never happened before they went to the current four division per conference format, so it happening twice since it was implemented isn't that rare. Who is looking for a major change? A minor tweak of the division winner that has a losing record having to go on the road instead of being gifted a home playoff game for mediocrity is a minor change.

Setting a minimum of eight wins to enter the playoffs wouldn't be much of a stretch, problem happens when seeding the team replacing them. Carolina beating Arizona was expected due to injury. But if they somehow beat Seattle, well that's just not good.

Good for us.

Arizona should have had home field yesterday. They were shafted by Goddell.

And this is definitely one of the reasons the league may hold off on changing things. Seeing a middle-of-the-road, or even below average team make the playoffs, and even win a game at home, keeps that perpetual hope alive for every fanbase, every year.

It's great for the game that anyone who makes the playoffs can win it all.

That's why I've been saying it has happened twice in 13 years instead of saying it has happened twice in 90 years. And with 8 divisions times 13 years = 104 division champs so 2 out of 104 is rare.

Bull. Changing the formula whereby winning your division gives a guaranteed home game would be a major change. It would also be a major change to say a team that didn't win their division could potentially host a game. We've heard them say time and again about how there should be a real reward for winning your division. This would not be minor.
