Im sure he is........just because you have a huge bank roll doesn't mean you get respect. Just like the Giants owner respects him.

Actually he is highly respected from the business standpoint of the overall league. Don't get that confused with his decisions as the Cowboys GM.

Thats a bunch of BS nobody respects anything about him and for good reason. The guy might have money but he could **** up a ham sandwich.

I love jimmy but he just doesn't deserve to be in the HOF

 He built a dynasty from nothing. He damn sure does deserve to be in the HOF.

I don't get the big deal about Dungy. He should be in but not on 1st ballot. The guy failed so many times in the playoffs and got one lucky Super Bowl.

I guess the challenge would be to find the crappiest coach in the Hall of Fame and then make the case for Jimmy over him. It is difficult to do. There are only a few candidates who don't completely destroy Jimmy. You are basically looking at having to pit him against someone like Madden, who also had a short career. Jimmy did win the extra Super Bowl, but Madden obliterated Jimmy in winning percentage. Still, maybe you can say there's room for both.

Jimmy Johnson 80-64 .556, 9-4 playoff record, 2 SB titles

Weeb Ewbank 130-129-7 . 502 4-1 playoff record, 1 SB title
Sid Gilman 122-99-7 .552 1-5 playoff record, no titles
Hank Stram 131-97-10 .575 5-3 playoff record, 1 SB title
Marv Levy 143-112 .561 11-8 playoff record, 4 SB appearances, no titles and he beat the man twice in the SB. Beat him like he stole something I say.

I don't think much of Haley as an HOFer. But there are a lot of Cowboys missing who should be there.

The problem with Jimmy is that he basically had all of his success over a 5 year period with one team................yea he coached in Miami for another 4, but he really didnt have the success there that you would anticipate a HOF coach having.

Haley absolutely belongs in the Hall of Fame. I don't believe Jimmy does though. He should be in the Ring of Honor however. Jerry Jones doesn't belong in either.

He is deserving. He was the owner of the team that won 3 SBs. Jimmy built the team, but Jerry did sign the checks. That is more than what most owners have accomplished. Throw in everything he has done for the league as a whole and Jerry is deserving of the HoF.

Yep agree with that. Jerry came in like a Superstorm and changed the way the WHOLE league does business, injected new blood into an aging core of owners who were quite satisfied to continue business as is. Jerry fought to get FOX in the loop on bidding for TV contracts. Jerry will most certainly be a 1st ballot HOF'er...

I think Haley finally gets in this year too, I think the voters or writers will have finally come around on this. Will love to see Haley up on the podium giving his acceptance speech, wonder who would present him...Jimmy, Jerry, who? Big time player and 5 SB rings should finally do it.

Interesting take. Now Jerry is an aging owner who is " satisfied to continue business as is."

Bill Parcells in, but no Jimmy Johnson?

The main reason that JJ is not getting in is that for all intents and purposes it is considered that he failed at Miami.

BP got in because of his ability to turn around multiple franchises more than his SB wins. Also his overall influence in the game due to what coaches who started under him have done - BB and others. Its an overall thing with BP. The same criteria disqualifies JJ.

Jimmy shouldn't even get consideration for the HOF. not in it long enough, and his Miami results taint his legacy here.

with that said, Tony Dungy? hell no.

If we're honest, Jimmy's body of work was a flop EXCEPT for his superbowl years in Dallas, and arguably his rebuilding years. Miami was likely a more accurate reflection of what his ability as an NFL coach was in reality - without an evil owner willing to do anything to win. By that I mean that Jerry was actually a large part of Jimmy's success (and vice-versa). Many won't like that observation, but it's hard to refute. Coaches rarely get to dump out all the blocks and start over as Jimmy did in his first year...nor do they benefit from Herschel Walker trades...ever. When handed a realistic coaching opportunity and a chance to live like Sonny Crockett, Jimmy flopped. He was a good coach in the context of his time in Dallas, but best suited for college. No HOF for Jimmy, although he should be lauded by Cowboys fans forever.

Charles Haley: a beast of a football player and an absolute reprobate as a human being...but we're talking only about football, huh? Character means nothing in sports today.

Jerry Jones is well respected by other NFL owners. He has contributed a lot to the league and made all of their pockets fuller. There is more to him than his refusal to hire a GM.

I'll only add that I've never heard a coach or player have anything but praise for Jerry as well. Seems he only draws the ire of fans...at times well deserved, but mostly shortbus ranting about firing himself.

He is a lot more deserving than most will ever give him credit for. There is no question that the addition of Jerry Jones into NFL ownership has made the league better. JMO but his contributions should make the vote a slam dunk in fact.
