NFLN: Mike Holmgren thinks L. Landry stinks?

Jim Mora: Mike, talk about the TD play that put you ahead. You mentioned post-game that it was a new play, put in for this game, and was really well executed. Talk about that play.

Mike Holmgren: It was, Jim. You know, we had added a couple new plays - new wrinkles - specifically to take advantage of how aggressive that young FS they have...Landry...of how he plays.

Now, recently I've been under the impression that the only reason an offense would scheme to take advantage of a safety is because said safety is a terrible player who couldn't cover my grandmother. So needless to say, I was pretty floored this morning when I heard Holmgren just tear Landry apart by admitting that they actually installed new plays in their offense specifically to take advantage of him.

I mean wow. Bombshell. Srsly.

He didn't say Landry was bad, but overly aggressive.

Just like Newman used to attack the WR's first move.

The kid is a rookie and a good FS. Holmgren simply attacked his aggressive nature.

Like Holmgren said, it was to take advantage of Landry's aggressiveness and youth. Any coach would/should attack a rookie safety. Although, from what I remember Landry was not the man in coverage on the TD that put Seattle up for good in that game. The TD on the drive after Sushi missed his FG.

Landry reading Hasselbecks eyes also earned him 2 interceptions in the game. So hasslebeck stared down Landry pump faked and took it the other way.

I dont see how them game planning to a weakness of a team comes as a surprise to you. How many throws did Reeves have his way? How many teams send out their TE to play against Roy. Its game planning.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but teams do not target Roy Williams because they think he is overly aggressive.

They target him, just like most players at his position because they perceive he is mediocre in coverage.

I watched it and he said Landry was a good young player. He did say they took advantage of his over aggressiveness on the TD play but it was also said Landry had 2 picks in the game. I did not feel Holmgren was tearing him apart or saying Landry was a bad player or stinks.

Landry is going to be a very good player for an awfully long time....all rookies make those kinds of mistakes.

I was bringing up Roy as an instance of teams installing plays or implementing schemes they think they can take advantage of him.

what Holmgren said about Landry was a cake walk compared to all the anti- roy bs that I read on here daily.

Landry is a great athlete I feel the same way about him that I did Sean Taylor loved them in college and hated hearing their names called with the skins.

I'm surprised there's not more shock and amazement that Holmgren would take Landry to task like that. I mean, Eli Manning's revelation that the Giants wanted to get Roy covering Shockey and take what the defense gave them shook the very foundations of Cowboyszone secondary evaluation. Now, we have a head coach saying that they designed plays and implemented them specifically to take advantage of a free safety.

I was floored. Blown away. I mean...drew up new plays and implemented them SPECIFICALLY to take advantage of a specific safety. That's hardcore.
It's like you people have never seen me post before.

Because he did not take him to task, he made one comment about taking advantage of his over agreesiveness he also said he thought Landry was a very good player. I don't if you are seeing this way to make a point on another player but there was nothing in that interview that even came close to taking Landry to task.

Holmgren is good at exposing safeties in the playoffs, just ask Roy.

He was trying to do all he could to win that game by himself.
He knew that Santana Moss had biznitched out on pass plays.

He is impressive.
