Like I said, I'm just calling em like I see em. I'll take your guys' word over my impressions.

I've respected you before and argued on your behalf with a mod in another thread this very day. Multiple posts.
I always enjoy reading your stuff, friend.
Keep on keeping on. I got yo' back.

And this is what any reasonable person should have expected. He'll take a cut. And he'll still be making more than he would've if he hit the open market. And he won't have to relocate.

I think there could be an adjustment so to speak.

You can't tell me Ware actually at the time of signing his current deal..

..didn't already know this year would have to be re-done.

That was sort of a given in these mega deals.

Each side has a strategy in mind when the contracts are done.

One of those being that Ware was NEVER going to see that payday at $12 mil/yr.

Nope.

Never get me to swallow that one.

So Mr. Ware..stop the posturing..

and start to playing.

Ware figured that the Cowboys would take parts of this salaries for the next two seasons and convert those to bonuses that could be amortized over the remaining years of the contract... Not that they (the Cowboys) would actually try to reduce his annual salary where his contract ends up being less than what he signed originally as opposed to simply moving the numbers around.

Well..

surprise.

Why should the team do this when his production is outta line with his earnings..?

And for the foreseeable future..Ware is not going to return as anywhere near the pass rusher he was in the 3-4.

And I don't see him being much of a run stopper, either as that's risking MORE physical contact resulting in more injuries?

With his shoulder and back injuries..he doesn't have the burst anymore, either.

So now what..?

The team should just sacrifice the season and continue with the slippage he brings?

Let's hope not.

Ware has out-lived his contract as far as being productive.

Happens to all athletes.

One of the times I hated most was when Haley couldn't play anymore..it was the beginning of the end for the 90's teams.

This team is at a crossroads for Garrett and the owner.

Either they get right the things that destroyed this 2006-2014 team or not.

Between Ware and Hatch, if it comes down to it, I choose Ware. Offer Spencer 5 to 6M and you have your DEs for one more year.

I think $6M+ with hard to reach performance incentives in case he blows up the QB sacks/pressures again up to $8-9M is a reasonable common ground for a new 3 year deal.

I think if you offered him that, he would probably be gone. I see no way he would not be able to get that with a team who might be able to compete for a championship. I think 8 is questionable but I doubt he would go for 6. I don't see the upside on that for Ware.

He might. I suppose a lot would hinge on how the performance incentives were structured. I'm just ball parking. My thinking was give him the salary of a top 20-ish player for his position, with performance incentives to get him near the top-10 for any given year given his age and injury status. But I have no real idea what those numbers are for 4-3 DEs. Was basically just ball parking them based off of the SEA deals last year for Avril/Bennett.

But, whatever the metrics, I'd be prepared for him to walk and to still be a good player for two or three years. I'd much rather retain him, but only at a price that really works for the team. We're too tight to mess around, and we've got a huge DL rebuilding project we're heading into. If it has to be a complete tear-down like we just went through on the OL, then so be it.

At this point, it's all up in the air. It's good to hear that he is willing to consider less pay but what less pay might be is anybodies guess. I hope it all works out but if it doesn't, I understand that too. Hate to see a person like that leave the organization but some things are baked into the cake, so to speak. You can't pay 108 Million and not expect to have to do some belt tightening somewhere.

Guess we'll see.

I still think 2yrs/16m guaranteed gets it down. It solves this year's cap hit and pushes the dead money back until 2016-17. He gets 12m in cash this year and 4m next year. Hopefully Ware agrees.

Agree, Im hoping for 8 but i think it would be more around 10. Now it just depends if the Cowboys are willing to pay that. IDK if they are.

he would probably be willing to take a fairly incentive laden contract with less guaranteed. He has already banked a pile and he is not the kind of guy that blows money easily.

I agree, its like the Doug Free situation in that the agent knows the cap hit for cutting him and begins negotiating from there. If the cap hit to cut Ware is 8.5MM the agent starts at that number knowing Dallas would pay that much to cut him so he is negotiating for the amount over the 8.5MM to have him remain on the team. 10MM sounds about right IMO with the team saving 6MM off the cap this year.

The problem is that you're only thinking about this year. Part of cutting Ware is opening up the salary cap for years to come.

Cutting Ware this year saves an additional 10 million next year, and 14 million the next year, and another 14 the year after that.

When Doug Free took a pay cut it wasn't just for 2013 and it was for 2014 as well. He is a free agent in 2015.

A restructure with Ware would be obviously be for more than just this year, that is so obvious I didn't think I had to write it. The future years would be cut as well - or much more likely, converted from salary to incentives at a lower level. You can dislike Ware all you want, but the most likely scenario here is a pay cut that keeps him on the team.

I don't dislike Ware, I'm simply saying that there is no appropriate price cut that he is going to be likely to take that warrants him staying on the team.

It'll be interesting to see if they can get him to take 2 yrs 12 million, but I'll be surprised if that happens.

Its possible, the dead money hit is 13MM over the next two years so its possible he could take something like 2/15 with a bunch of incentives built in.

Dallas want to keep Ware. And sources told them Ware is open to reducing his salary and wants to stay in Dallas, but what is not know is how much he is willing to cut. Will not be in Dallas if a salary cut doesnt happen.

In other news, Dr. Watson's partner is free of fecal matter.

It's sad to realize it has come to this with Ware. I love him and what he has done for the Cowboys. He is truly a class act.
