Fines should be percentages of salary. A rookie UDFA shouldn't get the same fine amount as 10M per year player.

The league could donate the collected fines to charity. It would amount to a sizable contribution by season's end.

I remember a comment from Drew Pearson one time about when he launched a ball into the stands after a TD, something along the lines of it was worth the $500 fine. I can't remember the exact amount he quoted but I think it was that...

Hey, I was at the Giants @ Cowboys game last season and that ball Church threw into the crowd almost hit me in the face. I wish it did. That would have been awesome.

Agreed. I didn't realize how many finable offenses there were in the NFL. And the thing is, these are just the minimums. Goodell can pretty much add whatever he wants on top of those fines. Extortion like if you ask me. Other leagues do not have ridiculous fines for all these things.

But what do you expect when a lawyer is running your league.

But what do you expect when a lawyer is running your league.

I would like to see Pro Sports go to a fine system over a suspensions. Fine players a percentage of the salary for all issues. Instead of suspending Ray Rice 2 games for domestic violence, let him play but take half of his salary. This would put more of an emphasis on penalizing the players and less on penalizing the fans of the team.

In college suspensions are the only real option, but in Pro Sports, they can penalize the player with fines without penalizing the fans and teammates.
