Ok, I’ve been tracking down any update I can get this week on Dallas Cowboys’ potential international destination in 2026.

I was told while Dallas was on the table for Melbourne, it will most likely be an NFC West team joining the Rams down under. Who exactly it will be could be determined by the Seahawks’ result on Sunday — and consequently if they will have to open at home as defending Super Bowl champions.

HOWEVER…

According to @espnsutcliffe, Mexico City is not happening for the Cowboys either.

“I know Dallas is not going to Mexico, and the idea is Brazil,” Sutcliffe said in a report (translated from Spanish).

The NFL will have its first game in Rio De Janeiro in 2026. If this report is correct, get ready to stamp Brazil on those passports.

I question why Brazil was chosen. That market does not show much interest in football; they are mostly soccer fans.

They should go to Japan and bring the game there. The Japanese are very interested in football, and many universities have American football teams. I visited last year, and Japan is a very large market for Cowboys merchandise.

Problem with Japan is it is a haul and it would take too long to get there, acclimate, market the sport, play, come home, and acclimate. Advertisers of the US broadcast might not like it much due to the time difference either. Although I’m not sure Melbourne is much better. I agree though the Japanese would eat up an NFL game.

Brazil has a pro league that is growing. Big interest in the sport there. Also a large country = big market.

The Brazil game is a good one to play - usually week 1 of the season and the timezone is closer than for European games.

It's dumb for Americans to field both teams in foreign stadiums. All this is, is a money grab.
You wanna grow the sport? Have each country put a team together.

Good point. Wherever it is, it would help if that game was week one.

I really think an international trip mid season can throw things off in a big way.

Prepare for an illegitimate child bump in Rio de Janeiro in 18 months or so. Maybe one becomes the new kicker in 2050.

Maybe they could do a pre-season game there, or an exhibition game during training camp.

Yay ........ a place where they cut off refs heads when their team loses!

Melbourne, FL definitely is an international game.

jk.

Much shorter than to Australia. Tokyo and Seoul are already being considered.

About the same flight time as flying to Brazil.

Jeez… I mean, I’m an international fan, so I’ve always been pleased to have NFL games only an hour’s flight away from me in London - but come on man, enough’s enough.

This is an NFL regular season we’re talking about; not the World Cup qualifiers. Can’t have guys jet-setting round the world and expect the same level of product on the field.
