With all the crap now in N.O. maybe Nicks will want to split ASAP.

Doesn't change anything. If he gets tagged, he has no options

Didnt they already say they were tagging Brees? I didn't think you could tag two players.

I think Breese will get tagged.

The point is if Nicks doesn't get tagged he won't be back in NO...with or without this bounty program fiasco...if Bree's signs an extension before Monday, Nicks will be tagged

I know that center might be the bigger hole on the team, and I am sure a center would be cheaper that what Nicks is going to get, but I still think he becomes a huge target if he's available.

I know that Tyron Smith was amazing this year, and I think he is going to be a fantastic player, but he is going to be playing LT for the first time against the big boys. I would rather him not have to learn a new position while covering for a lesser player beside him. A veteran inside of him would make me feel better. I bet the coaches feel the same way.

Best of all, a veteran guard who can really play, like Nicks, would make me feel a lot better about my center situation too. If I had Nicks on one side, I wouldn't feel so concerned about playing Costa, Nagy, or Kowalski at center because they would have someone to lean on too.

agreed , I think the fallback alternative is to move Kosier back to LG to help him in he transition like last season. I like option A better :D

from Cowboys Nation:

"quarterback Drew Brees says he's "very optimistic" that he can sign an extension before the March 5th deadline for tagging players. The Saints hope to re-up Brees, so they can use the tag on Nicks."

I wonder if Kosier will even be on this team?

I thought his play fell off last year, and he was hurt once again. I'm sure those two things are related, but still...

I do think, if he is on the team, he will be playing beside Tyron. I think they will want that steadying presence by the young player.

But I can easily imagine the team deciding to go with a free agent signing at one guard spot and let a veteran like Holland compete with the young guys for the other guard spot with a young center in the mix.

I don't think the bounty allegations will have much impact. The Brees contract scenario is going to be at the heart of it.

Despite what Brees says, I get the impression that the two sides are still rather far apart on what Brees is worth. If I were a betting man, I'd say that he ends up getting tagged and Nicks walks.

I don't expect Dallas to really go after Nicks, though.

I agree with this completely except I do think there is a decent chance they go after Nicks. They will at least try to talk to him and see where they need to be. They can be aggressive when they really want a player (Like Nnamdi). Jerry was convinced Nnamdi was coming here and he bid hard to get him.. the Eagles just came in last minute and offered a tad more.

It just comes down to how bad we want Nicks. It is highly possible we will try to go the cheaper route like past years...AND pay the price.

Brees is getting tagged. Saints will probably lose both Colston and Nicks.

Saints have until Monday to get Brees' signed and if he does then Nicks is getting tagged

I'm going to predict they lose one of the two.

Reports are that the two sides are over $5 mill a year apart right now. Apparently the Saints think Brees is just a "very good" QB and not a "great" QB and want to pay him accordingly.

Apparently Brees has told the Saints to suck it.

That is where we are right now in the negotiations.:laugh1:

Saints are just playing chicken with Brees' and his agent to see who will cave in first

Brees has all the leverage, because he knows somebody is going to pay him his money. If not the Saints, then somebody else.

Plus, the Saints cant afford to franchise Brees and keep Nicks and Coltson. They are between a rock and a hard place. All this bounty news coming to light now is not going to help things, Brees might want a "premium" to stay with them now.

there is no way the Boys can reasonably count on Kosier to be a starter anymore; he is now injured every year and more and more is getting bull rushed. He is strictly a backup now if we keep him at all.

Holland did decently but he has not exactly been someone you could count on for 16 games; maybe 12.

Dockery is pretty much done.

So that leaves the slugs we used last season.

Costa is putrid.

Nagy is small and weak. Barely 300 lbs and he came from what is acknowledged as the best college W/T program around at Wisconsin - he was a fifth year senior. You cannot reasonably expect him to get much bigger or stronger. At best he can be a center.

Arkin probably needs another year to build up; his college had NO weight training program worth the name.

Killa might be decent at center.

Fact is that we MUST have new blood that is GOOD to start with in the middle of the O line since there is no WAY that Romo could make it through another season like this one not on IR.

I read a few articles/tweets saying that they were 5 mil apart for three of the years, the first three I believe which would make it around a 15 mil difference. I originally though just 5 mil, which they wouldn't have nay problem with I assumed but 15 mil is a much bigger difference and could be tough to hammer out in two-three days.
