Nnamdi choosing to sign with Philly over Dallas in 2011 a blessing?

If Nnamdi signed with Dallas, Brandon Carr probably wouldn't be a Cowboy right now. Remember Nnamdi was basically a Rob Ryan player with Oakland who knew his scheme. Also Nnamdi had just turned 30, meaning he would be on the downside of his career. Carr is still 27? Was Nnamdi signing with Philly in 2011 a blessing in diguise? Carr has been an absolute stud this season.

Si senor.
Love Austin...
Uh, the city, not the guy...

But I do like Austin.
The guy, not the city.

It seems to be the case with signing big name free agents who are at or around 30 period. Whether it's resigning your own guys or signing guys from other teams. The Carr signing was good because he was a good player in KC, was probably not yet in his prime, and was only 25. It's almost smarter nowadays to signing a less-proven guy who is 25 than a proven guy who is 30. Guys just don't last long in today's NFL. Kinda ironic considering all the safety precautions we take.

Probably because Dallas probably would not have cut him by now like Philly has.

What I take away from the Nnamdi signing is that it really highlighted the end of an era in Philly. The ship was going down regardless but it went down in flames. If he signed with Dallas, Young most likely never made that stupid statement and there would have been all kinds of crazy pressure to win it all.

The crash and burn that team, city and fans went through was extremely gratifying to watch from afar.

Its almost impossible to know that. The scheme in Dallas was a perfect fit for him, and there is much better leadership here than in Philly...even a couple years ago. I think he mailed it in there, there's no guarantee he would have done the same here.

This is what is considered a good free agent signing= Carr of course.

I don't think he mailed it in. He turned 30 and his game dropped off. Plenty of corners lose their game right around 30 -- I think he was one of them.

Yea, probably. But that steep of a decline is not always the case...I think he lost motivation, which is just as important.

OR, would we have still signed Carr, and went else where with the draft (picked a defensive lineman?) leaving us WITHOUT the headache of developing Claiborne, Carr and Asomghua in our secondary, and a lineman? We could never know

I agree with you about the scheme.
It was a better scheme here in Dallas for him being successful and an awful one there with an OL coach pretending to be a DC.

I think he gave up a little bit, resigning himself to the limitations of what the scheme allowed him to do.

That said- I wouldn't want a guy on my team who slumped and gave in because it wasn't the right fit for him scheme-wise.

I would want the guy who will fight through that.

Good point, though.

Doubtful. That's WAY too much to put into one position.

That was a blessing since we probably wouldn't have Carr, or if we did, that would be two gargantuan contracts in the cornerback position. Another blessing was not drafting Chris Johnson and tying up a massive amount in the runningback postiion.
