No love for Mike Hamlin or Robert Brewster yet?

Mickens and Butler only had three days of workouts this week and got some praise, after missing OTAs.

But Hamlin and Brewster have had a few weeks of workouts. No love lately for either yet, as expressed by coaches, or reporters watching the action. Has anyone heard different? .... If Hamlin or Brewster had flashed a little, I think somebody would have reported it ...

M. Johnson impressed at one day of practice this week anyway, giving us all hope he can be the new Crayton (seventh-round pick too).

So maybe both Hamlin and Brewster are also "late bloomers" and may come into their own when pads are put on. I hope.

apparently Newman has been raving about Hamlin, how smart he is

only thing we heard about Brewster is Marc Colombo pushing him out of the huddle

The odds are against Brewster.

Colombo will probably be gone in 2 years

Kosier's contract is coming up too

We can't draft O-lineman for ****. It's a well known fact.

Here's a tidbit from Tim MacMahon's DMN Blog chat from earlier today:

Comment From TexAgs

Can you give a rundown on how all the rookies looked?

That's tough to do without seeing them in pads. And OLB Victor Butler and CB Mike Mickens weren't able to participate in anything but the minicamp.

The rookies that I heard the most buzz about were fourth-round OLB Brandon Williams (quick first step) and fifth-round SS Mike Hamlin (smarts). Undrafted WR Kevin Ogletree did enough to put himself in the mix before a nerve issue ended his minicamp. Seventh-round WR Manny Johnson really came on in the two days after Ogletree got hurt.

There is really no way to evaluate O-linemen in non-contact drills. Wait for the pads to come on in training camp.

I have to wonder how quickly Robert Brewster will adjust to playing in a three point stance the majority of the time in the NFL after rarely doing it in Ball State's spread offense.

But Brewster sounds like a talented small school prospect, he was under consideration for the Lombardi and Outland trophies as a senior.

We have to hit on an OL at some point, don't we?

I would hope so. The last small school OLineman that I know of worked out pretty good I would say.

Problem is, in three days of reporters on the scene, no word at all of Mike Mickens doing anything in drills, 7 on 7, or anything.. I like it that T-New said he was smart, but can he make a play. ... (was he injured?)

No prob though. Between K Ham, Sensabaugh, Ball, DeAngelo Smith, Watkins, all have gotten some pub. ... Even vet/practice squad guy Jerome Carter (5 years in the league) has gotten some good notices ... we will probably be better at safety any way you look at it ..

You need to look harder if you haven't heard anything about Mickens.

There is a free article by Steve Landsdale at the ranch covering the minicamp.
