No more expectations - need to vent

At this point I have ZERO expectations on any specific picks. They've already proven to me that the info we have from media and draft experts is pretty much irrelevant.

I would've thought Jaylon Smith was a late round guy, Kendall fuller a rd 2 guy, Maliek Collins a round 4 guy.... Xavien Howard a 6ft athletic CB a great option in Rd 2, Andrew Billings a Steal in RD 3 (just heard he has a knee issue), I can go on and on because there's plenty of guys we passed on so far.

These picks are so far out there that I don't have any predictions left to make. I wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point. I'm disappointed but I have no choice but to hope theres a ton of Intel that I'm not privy to.

Pretty frustrating but I guess it is what it is. Just wanted to vent a little bit. Couldn't care less what happens to this thread.

Expectation are a big problem in something like the NFL draft. JJones and company are the worst
at fulfilling those dreams. However,
I like the 1st pick. His a top five and will be a big help to Romo.
The second was a shocker but if he pans out ,,,homerun.
Collins fits the Marinelli profile and we needed more DT power.

I'm looking for th 4th too be even more afield

I admit, I was shocked that we took Jaylen in the 2nd. I am choosing to have faith that they know something and also choosing to be willing to wait for potentially one of the best LBs in the entire league.

Collins in the 3rd seems like a good pick as well. With the depth at DT in this draft, I am not sure how anyone could be disappointed in that selection.

These two 4ths today will tell the story on this draft.

I understand the negativity about the Smith pick.

But almost 4 months after the surgery he seems to be headed in the right direction.

If the pick doesn't pan out... The pick is gone.

However keep in mind there's no guarantee that whomever they picked at #34 was going to be a long-term keeper.

If Smith gets his health back, the guy could very well be a long-term solution at LB for this club. AND keep in mind he's going to have a 2nd round contract too, so given his "ceiling" he could very well end up being a tremendous bargain.

I was surprised at the selection at first... But the upside potential of Smith outweighs the risk IMO.

The thing that's concerning on Smith is that his game is speed, balance, and agility and the Cowboys are banking on a minimal loss of these elements following rehabilitation. The docs are the experts but any doc worth a hoot doesn't give guarantees which leads me to believe the FO might have been hearing what they wanted about his chances.

Collins doesn't bother me at all. I thought he might make it to round 4 but I was expecting round 3 since it seems big conference DL are just about tapped out at that point in most drafts. His tape shows a guy who can be groomed into a really good 3-tech.

Elliot will be fun to watch and have on your fantasy team. Does his selection make you a better enough team to warrant the investment of #4? Time will tell. I've been wanting an elite back behind this line so I can't totally complain. I just hate the resource allocation. I'm probably just sore that Bosa got away.

I don't understand how we can give them a pass for selecting Jaylon Smith with such a premium pick.

It's nothing more than ego driven and getting cute.

I understand the angst.

And it's not a question that is going to be answered for several more months and maybe not until next offseason.

But if you watch the kids' tape he has great instincts. Watch how he slides off blocks, he has a skill set that you're not going to find for a typical player at #34.

Speaking of which, look at the list of guys selected after Smith... There aren't any "sure things" there. Lots of question marks all throughout the 2nd round.

We have one player selected in the second round penciled in as a 2016 opening day starter from the past 6 drafts (including this year) and we have to go back to 2010 for that player (Lee). You can even go back further and the putrid results would be the same. The top 3 rounds are where you find your starters. There's really no excuse for the way this front office "builds" this roster.

What starter was there at #34?

I think Dodd could have started the first 4 games in the absence of Lawrence, but after that... probably not. And he was gone at #33.

I didn't see many "starter quality" picks after Smith at #34.

Mike and Will are both big positions in Tampa 2 varients. Chicago doled out more money to Urlacher and Briggs then most teams probably would have. Those are very key positions in our scheme. And if healthy, Smith projects at either at a Pro Bowl level

Zeke was a slam dunk Great pick
Smith was a shock to me ....... but if the Pats were after him and the Cowboys felt they needed him ........ nahhh still a shock but I love the player.
Collins is a big ugly ....... thats what you get in the 3rd unless someone drops for character issues (and we already have enough of that)

And IF HEALTHY Smith is a better athlete than either Urlacher or Briggs IMO.

I hate these picks on the surface, too. It's a bizarre set of choices, and it's disappointing.

The only thing is, drafts have a way of turning out differently than they look on paper. Years I think we've killed it haven't turned out. And years I've been pretty disappointed with have worked out fine. If just Elliott and Smith end up in probowls, that's all we'll remember eventually.

But I agree. It's hard not to have that *** feeling after yesterday when you look at what we're doing.

He's the best player in the draft. I'll concede that all day. He's a superstar.

Im just tired of waiting 2 and 3 years for guys in the 2nd round to contribute for this team.

We always get cute with this pick and it rarely works out.

Jack is a Day 1 starter over Wilber. And while he does have an injury concern, it is a down the road concern. He should be lining up as a starter on opening day against the Giants.

Sterling Shepard is a day 1 starter over Williams.

Jack may not have been on the Cowboys board due to the knee.

And I'm not sold on Shepard as an immediate starter.
