I hate these picks on the surface, too. It's a bizarre set of choices, and it's disappointing.

The only thing is, drafts have a way of turning out differently than they look on paper. Years I think we've killed it haven't turned out. And years I've been pretty disappointed with have worked out fine. If just Elliott and Smith end up in probowls, that's all we'll remember eventually.

But I agree. It's hard not to have that *** feeling after yesterday when you look at what we're doing.

Only way this draft is s success is if

1. Zeke is s perennial all pro
2. Smith starts next year and is at least 90% and stays injury free going to probowls
3. Collins and Tapper become solid rotational guys
4. A couple of the later picks become contributors

The probability of these is very very low

Even if they get the performance from the players eventually, it doesn't excuse the low-probability way they sent about it. There were smarter ways to go. Especially with the two high early picks.

Outside of Zeke. Which I want to be on record as a reach of the greatest draft reach proportions. Maybe 2 guys make this roster. zeke. Jaylon on ir. And then all the others who knows. Round 2 and 3 had some studs. And we got none. Smith is a stud but a huge question. I hope he heals.

I understand the negativity about the Smith pick.

But almost 4 months after the surgery he seems to be headed in the right direction.

If the pick doesn't pan out... The pick is gone.

However keep in mind there's no guarantee that whomever they picked at #34 was going to be a long-term keeper.

If Smith gets his health back, the guy could very well be a long-term solution at LB for this club. AND keep in mind he's going to have a 2nd round contract too, so given his "ceiling" he could very well end up being a tremendous bargain.

I was surprised at the selection at first... But the upside potential of Smith outweighs the risk IMO.

Could be a future ALL-PRO !!!!

We have one player selected in the second round penciled in as a 2016 opening day starter from the past 6 drafts (including this year) and we have to go back to 2010 for that player (Lee). You can even go back further and the putrid results would be the same. The top 3 rounds are where you find your starters. There's really no excuse for the way this front office "builds" this roster.

It really has been a disaster for awhile now.
Just fix round two for last decade and you probably have a contender.
