The Chargers are a terrible example for making that argument.
Of their starters, including the OLBs, their only first round pick is Liuget. Reyes was a second rounder, Thomas and Johnson (Bal) in the 4th, Tourek Williams 6th. Ingram was a first round draft pick, but is a backup right now and has 1 career sack. Other backups include Lissemore, a Dallas pick, Lawrence Guy who was taken in the 7th buy the packers, and I'm not even sure Kwame Geathers was drafted. Te'o was a second rounder, Donald Butler was taken in the third, and their backups are undrafted and 7th rounders.

For comparison, In the Dallas front 7...Ware and Spencer were first rounders. Lee and Carter taken in the second. Hatcher and Crawford are both third rounders. Sims was taken in the top 10 and Durant was a 2nd rounder. Wilber is a 4th rounder and Holloman was taken in the 6th.

You can argue all day and night about whether or not Dallas has made the right picks, but its not like the Chargers of all teams have invested more picks in the defensive trenches.

They actually have coaches that know what the hell is going on and how to scheme.................they dont need 8 first rounders to force a dam punt.

Well I was talking exclusively about the defensive line so you posted a whole lot of nothing. Crawford is one of two defensive linemen drafted by this team in the last 4 years. Compare that to the Chargers with 5, including a first rounder..in that same window.

For a 34 team, you have to include OLBs as DL, but its just easier to compare the front 7 since both teams blitz, and the Chargers don't get pressure solely from the guys who are DL.

Those 6 guys have combined for 10.5 sacks, which is good for a 34, but nothing special.

Why would the Cowboys use draft picks on DL when they had Ware and Spencer and were running a 34 that required interior lineman to just, for the most part, eat up blocks?

And, fwiw, I somehow forgot Larry English, a first rounder, in my first post...he has 2.5 sacks.

Lots of folks here loved English (I'll include myself in that list).
