Although not a huge fan of Fisher personally, I have faith in his info when it comes to Dez Bryant. From my experience, he has a close connection with the player, so I trust in what he has to say here.

I think this deal happens today.
Fisher seems to have good intel on Cowboys contract talks.

I think they wait until Monday to do the deal publicly. They probably have a verbal agreement already.

I have a Cowboys news thing on my Facebook and last night they had a link to a story saying that the deal will be announced on Monday. It's Dallas Cowboys 24/7 on Facebook but I don't know how reliable that information is.

LOL -- Well, it wouldn't be the first time such a thing ever happened. Having worked for a newspaper in the past, I'm fully aware it's much more commonplace than the average Joe might think. It's also quite common to take for granted what's being said or printed by the media. If I've been guilty of doing so, mea culpa.

You have a conscience...most of the poop media sources, simply don't.

This all seems to be happening quickly, but it kind of has to. The Cowboys are looking at a rough couple of games, they really can't afford to be without their biggest offensive threat.

All of it varies. Some is fully guaranteed for injury and performance, meaning if you get cut or injured you get all of it.

Some is just guaranteed for injury.

Some isn't guaranteed right away. Romo had 40m fully guaranteed at signing and another 15m staggered over the next 2 offseasons.

The League requires that if any money is fully guaranteed, cash has to be put into an escrow account to cover it. That is one of the holdups with Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. His agent wants up to 100% guaranteed, but Paul Allen doesn't do business that way.

Exactly
Roster bonus later on is guaranteed but only if you are on the roster so it counts as guaranteed but is not fully guaranteed
Very common in contracts because fluff makes agents look good but what you actually get is really what matters
Personally if a kid is not really good at managing his money spreading out his money is really to his benefit
If you are good with your money then getting it up front and investing it makes you more money
Dez from what I've read is not great at managing his money so protecting him from his own self is to his benefit

Not real sure it will protect Dez all that much. He has already shown the propensity to spend his future earnings. Dez is also very loyal to friends and family. Once he gets his money, which he deserves, the pressure to remove it from him will be unreal.

Too bad, no one is giving Dez 40m fully guaranteed.

No one will be given the chance. Calvin Johnson got almost $49M guaranteed and a $16M signing bonus. The last reported offer to Dez was $20M guaranteed and a $5M signing bonus. It could very well take $40M if not more to get him signed. He knows how important he is to the Cowboys that was made crystal clear vs the Packers in the playoffs. With the game on the line the Cowboys chose to throw a 50-50 jump ball to him on a 4th and 2 instead of going to Witten on a much higher percentage play to pick up the first down.

Personally, I don't care for his thin-skin when questioned. I would expect someone in the public eye to be smarter than that and to act with more maturity.

I rarely look at twitter, but I hear him on a regular basis on the radio. He does not really bother me. I prefer his style to a nice guy that is always wrong.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Dez Bryant likes to tell me he’s a “hyperactive kid,’’ a fact that makes his wait on a “Cowboys For Life’’ contract all the more challenging. But sources tell me his wait is almost over, the two sides having moved to such a negotiating comfort level that there is discussion about announcing a done deal following the July 4 weekend.

The specific structure of a new deal — maybe worth $100 million spread over seven years — is not yet known. But I am told that owner Jerry Jones wants to make a “positive mark’’ on what figures to be one of the most high-impact contracts he’ll pay as Cowboys owner.

Meanwhile, team management wishes to avoid any negativity (resulting from a holdout or even from long-term disgruntlement should Bryant simply play under the $12.832 million franchise tag) that could detract from this team’s cause — which includes Bryant serving as a leader on a contending team.

Besides the suspensions of Hardy and McClain this is the only story that saves us from offseason boredom.

Hope they wont get it done until 14th. After that it will give us another (aprox.) 1 week of trash stories. And then only 2 more weeks to training camp. yipi ah yeah!

Somehow i have to find ways to bridge time. Cant wait for the season to start.

Could you link to all the Dez is bad with his money stories? Are these first hand accounts? Are they recent?

What I don't get is the Dez is bad with his money AND JJones co-signs on his purchases stories.

Which one is it? If JJones is overseeing his finances and Dez needs to take a bad contract because he needs money, it would seem that JJones is really a horrible person or a horrible financial adviser.

Of course this is just my opinion, but I get a good feeling about Hardy.
His all in so far and a positive presence in the lockerroom.
Now Ro I am a bit leery of after the past year of 'get to know him'.
He'll have to been treated 'special' but if the coaches are OK with it,I'm OK.

Agreed. Hardy might be a little quirky and has been involved in an unfortunate situation or too, but there are two things you can say about Hardy that you might not about McClain:
  • He always gives 110% devotion to his craft
  • He's smart.
That's not to say that McClain never tries or is flat out stupid... but compared to Hardy, that's how it seems. Those are attributes that you can't teach, and I think are vital to being able to maintain a roster spot on this team.

I cant wait until this is over. Dez will turn Byron Jones into a beast of a corner, at least im hoping so.

Either that, or reduce his confidence down to that of the Cowardly Lion. Hopefully what you said comes true though.

Lol, you know it's the offseason dead period when you're hoping for Dez negotiations to go until the 11th hour just for the sake of having something to read about.

Kinda hard to have first hand accounts but there was two civil suits for unpaid debt for jewelry and tickets for over 800k
That doesn't show a player smart with his money to borrow money to buy hundreds of thousands in jewelry to me

I dont understand how a report says they arent close surfaces the same time a report says a deal is most likely done and will be announced next week. It confuses me

For four days now, rumors and reports have suggested that a long-term deal between the Cowboys and receiver Dez Bryant is imminent. For four days now, nothing has happened. The latest rumors and reports point to a deal maybe, possibly being announced Monday. Which would be a fairly impressive feat; as one source with knowledge…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2335899&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1
