DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Dez Bryant likes to tell me he’s a “hyperactive kid,’’ a fact that makes his wait on a “Cowboys For Life’’ contract all the more challenging. But sources tell me his wait is almost over, the two sides having moved to such a negotiating comfort level that there is discussion about announcing a done deal following the July 4 weekend.

The specific structure of a new deal — maybe worth $100 million spread over seven years — is not yet known. But I am told that owner Jerry Jones wants to make a “positive mark’’ on what figures to be one of the most high-impact contracts he’ll pay as Cowboys owner.

Meanwhile, team management wishes to avoid any negativity (resulting from a holdout or even from long-term disgruntlement should Bryant simply play under the $12.832 million franchise tag) that could detract from this team’s cause — which includes Bryant serving as a leader on a contending team.

Although not a huge fan of Fisher personally, I have faith in his info when it comes to Dez Bryant. From my experience, he has a close connection with the player, so I trust in what he has to say here.

I think this deal happens today.

Never thought it was going to get done before this weekend any way. Would bet it is the latter part of next week, and not the beginning of the week.

Nobody pays attention to headlines on the holiday.

i do, but youre right i may be in the minority. either way would be a big headline for the day after week leading into july 15th. first WR signed and probably setting the market.

40mil guaranteed is beautiful and he's one of the players i feel deserves every penny of it, Megatron is outstanding but he does not deserve the money he got simply because of his injury issues.

7 years / $100m ($14.2/year) with $30-40m guaranteed seems like a wonderful and fair compromise.

That is not a fair compromise. That is re-setting the market(CJ doesn't count).

That would be a gigantic deal and a gigantic risk if the 40m is fully guaranteed.

Megatron doesn't even deserve megatron money.

I really hope we can bring back McClain, Hardy and Crawford next year. This defense is starting to finally come around and now we risk losing some of its youth and toughness so soon.

Have you guys missed the 100 NBA players signing 100m contracts the last 2 days??

The timing of the breaking story is about 99 out of 100 on the priority list.

If they can find better players at the position then i'd be fine with moving on from McClain & Hardy, they're ultra talented but they are the biggest red flags on the team.

Who cares? Nobody wants a team full of choir boys, the dudes can ball on the field and as long as they stay on the field and win us games they can retire cowboys
