It's easy to lose sight of it in all our misery and all of the other woulda coulda shoulda's, but P. Crayton not fielding that last punt was inexcusable. Had he fair caught it, we would have started at about the 30-35 yard line with 45 seconds to go. More than enough time to move 40 yards to set up a long field goal attempt. However, starting with 36 seconds after the time runoff, left us in desperation mode.
I just find it ironic because under Parcells, who stresses this type of stuff, we usually make that play to give us a chance. It guess it just part of the surreal end of that game.

I agree, as a matter of fact it looked as if he would have fielded it he would have got a few yards on the return as well. That was huge due to field position and seconds ticking off the clock. I was yelling, what the heck are you doing?

I do not think is was the key point in the game, but it sure hurt.

I think it was the holding call on Adams, although it seems this was a bogus call.

Didn't Roy drop a potential INT in the End Zone during the 4th Q?

If it had been taken it could have been demoralising for the Skins....a key play if there was one.

Actually, I think the key play was our defense giving up 25 yards to Burnell on a 4th and forever! We totally collapsed after that play. The same drive we gave up two 4th downs, one a 4th and 15, giving up a touchdown.

Burnell run came on 3 and 27 he picked up 23 yards on the run leading to a 4th and 4. However I do think that was a key play on that drive that helped the skins out.

The key to the game is Payton calling plays like a freakin wuzzz. He called plays to lose the game not go for the kill.

There were several opportunities for us to take control of the game but we didn't do it. I don't know that you can look at any one play and say it was the key play.

We haven't learned to close out games yet. That's the truth of the matter.

I would agree we had some chances both offense and defense to seal the deal and we did not do it. However seeing some of the post around here you would think the season is over, sorry I saw many positives coming out this game and still feel very confident that we will have a good season this year.

Hmmm Portland...Someone calling someone a WUSS not named zimmy?

Really, he (Payton) called a conservative game, but he should have known a 13 point lead with zimmy as our DC is never safe, even with 3 mins left...

You know who I am still calling the biggest WUSS in Cowboys history! :D

A missed 41 yard field goal is unexcusable and if made the game is ours ,but Crayton blew it at crunch time he lost both yards and time on the clock both very valuable.

absolutely. if this game had a key play, this was it. horrible, horrible lane control by the DL. no way a 35-yr old QB should scramble for 25 yards untouched.

That was definetly the biggest break down in the game.

The play that turned the momentum in the Skins favor was the 25 yd scramble by Brunnel. Shanle has to make that tackle. but still, it's 4 and 2 and the Skins are down 0-13. That play did not win the game.

on Crayton...he's not a punt returner. He runs too high and is an eyelash it seems from fumbling everytime. There has to be someone better suited for that job on the roster besides Newman.

I agree Dooms. I saw a great deal of positive last night.

I have not thought, and still don't think, that we are a 10-6 team this year. I believed us to be a 8-8 or 9-7 team. I there will be a few times we will probably play well but manage to give one away here and there. That's what young teams do. There's really nothing to be done about it, IMO, except to play through it and learn. Eventually, these kinds of loses will turn a young talented defense into a championship calibur defense.
