Any interest for us if we lose Garrett?

Titans fire Chow after three seasons

ESPN.com news services

Updated: January 15, 2008, 2:15 PM ET

The Tennessee Titans fired offensive coordinator Norm Chow after three seasons with the team, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Tuesday.
The Titans finished the regular season 10-6 and suffered a 17-6 loss to the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the playoffs. They finished 10th in the AFC in total yards.
Chow, who was previously the offensive coordinator at USC, was interviewed for UCLA's head coach opening in December but withdrew his name from consideration. The Bruins went on to hire Rick Neuheisel.

Chow is an interesting prospect. He has had success and he has had failure. I don't know how much of either is due to him, the HC he worked under, or the players he had. I would not be against bringing him in but I wouldn't get all excited about it either.

The players at USC swore by the guy but he was unable to produce much with the Titans. It could be because Vince Young is not a pocket QB like Palmer and Leinart were at USC. Hmmm...

He was somewhat successful in Tennesee, considering he had probably the worst QB in the league to work with. Had a great running game.

Coach, I still wish we had hired you here at Arizona.

He is such a good guy. Brilliant offensive mind.

The guy who should have been fired there is not Norm Chow, nor is it Vince Young. The guy who should have been fired is whoever allowed them to go into last season with the absolute worst receiving corps in the NFL.

I think this is just the first in a long line of Titans offensive coordinators we see let go during the course of Vince Young's career.

Who knows. He did wonders for QBs in college but was hamstrung with the offensive talent in Tennessee. Beyond Vince Young and LenDale White, who do they have on offense? Roydell Williams (before this year no one knew who he was), Eric Moulds (3rd team in 3 years, which is almost as many TDs as he had in that span), Bo Scaife (Couldn't hold Tony Curtis' jock).

I haven't seen enough of Chow's playcalling to know what he can/can't do but I think with Barber, Romo, Owens, Witten and the offensive line, anyone should look like a genius.

IF we lose Garrett, Jerry should be interviewing like crazy and Chow could be brought in to interview just to help with the Rooney Rule even though it only refers to head coaches.

Try to stay on topic, and off Norv's nuts.

:laugh2:

I happened to catch Mort talking about this at lunch. He basically said that it had nothing to do with Chow's actual teaching or coaching, and everything to do with a personality conflict with Vince Young.

Chow is a good coach -- I don't think there's a lot of doubt about that.

Oh, I'm right on topic, showing how wrong you have been recently in your pronouncements. Didn't you and I have a discussion about that Colts Chargers game? I seem to remember that.

The topic is Norm Chow being fired, and possible reasons for that.

If you can pull your head out of Norv's lap long enough to discuss that a bit more, I'd love to hear some more of your theories.
