Normally failure creates change

The reason we are all here complaining is because we care (not counting the trolls that just want to get reactions out of people).

I read both the positive and the negative threads because, quite simply, that is the best way to find out if fans feel the same way I do. No, I do not always agree. Yes, I have been accused of being many things; from a "Dak over Dallas" fan (which is odd because the only reason I like Dak is because he's a Cowboy) or a "Jerry Homer" (which is about as far from the truth as it gets).

Do you think Browns fans are totally happy with the ineptitude that franchise has shown for almost 40 years? Are Lions and Cardinals fans happy they are the oldest active franchises in the NFL that have never won a Super Bowl?

Why do those teams have fans? Why do they complain? Because they CARE. Like we do.
So in order to care, I have to complain, bad mouth Dak and derail any positive thread??? That's stupid, I'd rather not care, than act like that.

For the 15th time in the last 26 seasons, our Dallas Cowboys will not be participants in the NFL playoffs. That means since 2000, we have made the playoffs 42% of the time. When we’ve made the playoffs, we’ve won a single wild card game 40% of the time. We can’t get better without first admitting we are not a very good football team. And it was obvious all year.

We are just a few weeks from the start of a very important off-season. An off-season where if this front office does not change its ways in acquiring more quality NFL talent, only a miracle from Lady Luck will prevent us from missing the playoffs again.

In short, if JJ and his sidekick son don’t change their ways, expect the same kind of season next year..

Before the off-season starts, we will be saturated with the usual sales job from our owner/GM, gaslighting us with the ridiculous statement that he is “surprised” we didn’t make the playoffs. Most Cowboys fans are not surprised.

And he will be thrilled when too many Cowboys fans will blame the HC, DC, the QB and whoever else can be thrown under the party bus.

My 9 year old granddaughter apparently has a better understanding of what this team is when she sweetly and accurately said to me while watching a recent game with me, “Papa the Cowboys just aren’t very good are they?” Out of the mouth of a 9 year old comes more truth than we will ever get from our 83 year old GM.

So unless Jerry and Giggles admit that their cheap ways of roster building without serious participation in FA doesn’t work, we will be here again next year. Or realizing that hiring coaches because they’re friends and they make you feel comfortable is not the way to win.

In normal organizations, failure creates change. Because without major changes in how this team is run, we should not expect changes in results.
Only way I will be convinced is if Dallas obtains some mid to top tier free agents in the off season to plug some of their holes.

By the way, current Cowboy personnel on expiring contracts DOES NOT count.

Exactly, I want to see us win it all. I was 3 the last time we did. I was too young to follow the sport at the time. So, I'm holding the FO accountable because I care and want to finally see us win it all.

Not sure what I will be looking at or getting excited over.
Way too many unknowns at this point.

Salary cap situation. Will they do some stupid restructures.
Will they tag or sign Pickens.

Can they, or will thy be active in Free Agency, and will they actually try to bring in better top players, or be bargain basement again.

Just none of it seems exciting right now. As we know they will screw it up somehow.

Then there is the draft. Great we have 2 first round draft picks. Ours which will probably be around 15th. GB's which if they get knocked out in the 1st round will be 18 to 22.

But we have no 2nd or 3rd round pick.
That is not too exciting either, unless they trade down.

Just nothing to look forward to as of now.

Your last paragraph says it all in normal organizations failure creates change.

The sooner everyone realizes this isn't a normal organization wanting to win football games this is a business oriented organization wanting to make the most profit.

Up to 32 businesses in the NFL we are the most profitable we are on TV every week we make the most money and therefore in our owner's mind we are the most successful and there is no reason to change.

When fans understand that compiling generational wealth is way more important to Jerry than compiling little trophies that sit in a cabinet he's already done that.

Sure he wants to keep us competitive on the cusp of being a contender always relative always in the news media always being talked about always some type of controversy and upheaval he loves it the drama it's his own little soap opera.

The team as your granddaughter says is not very good at playing football but the team is incredibly talented at making money for their owner.

Until the fan base understands Jerry's priorities people will just continue to make threads about what we should do and how we should fix it and none of it matters to him because he is the king and as Mel Brooks said it's good to be the king.

This simple Jerry is the most successful at what is important to him and what is important to him is not what's important to the fans.

Reminds me of back in 2005. My sons were like 8 and 9 years old, and looked at me and said, why do you root for this team dad?

Lobby for change???? That's a crock....what change can you make here? Spoiled fans....that's all it is. Grown men having temper tantrums....
You act like we aren’t or dont support our teams . We cheer them on every game and throughout the season . We do.

But we also speak out, this is a fan forum afterall, if there are concerns and issues we feel are preventing us from more success or simply commenting on events that occur.

Perhaps you’re struggling or not fully grasping the meaning or intent of a fan forum?

What you need to do, is sthu, and follow your own advice. You guys cry about me telling you how to be a fan, what are you doing right now? You can be that ignorant....tell me you dont agree, but don't tell to stop.....just like your type always say, I can fan the way i choose to. You like walking around pissed at the world, because Jerry doesn't do things your way???? What a sorry existence.
We are responding to calling us out.
I agree. Everyone conduct their fandom as best serves their interest.

And if you want to exclusively cheer on our ownership and how Cowboys Football is ran that’s your prerogative. Even if you don’t agree or like our ownership, etc and choose not to be upset or speak out, that’s fine too.

Surely you’re capable of doing so without directly quoting other fans and bashing them for how they conduct their fandom. And then don’t expect a response or push back.

There’s ample forums and threads on this site without opening up those you know are going to be bashing our ownership, etc.

Again, I’m not sure what you expected . But regardless now you know what to expect and still choose this . Much like you say we aren’t going to change anything, neither are you with other fans.

There’s a stark difference in our approaches. We are bashing our ownership and organization for lack of success while you are bashing us for calling it out and critiquing it .

Present arguments in why you support what our ownership is doing . But you don’t . You just don’t like us calling it out. .

We are just as big a Cowboys fan as you are . We just aren’t happy with things. And are here to voice our opinions.

So in order to care, I have to complain, bad mouth Dak and derail any positive thread??? That's stupid, I'd rather not care, than act like that.
No, all fans aren’t the same. Some fans don’t publicly speak out. Doesn’t mean they are happy .

And they might not like how other fans speak out or complain . I can tell you I’ve been to many games and didn’t like how fans continuously called out issues . It was very annoying .

But in a fan forum setting as such we can ignore , scroll down to another subject, etc.
there are many options so we dont have to hear it.

Remember coach there are over 23,000 fans on this site and we only regularly hear from a few hundred.

Jerry told Stephan this, "One thing you can count on is our fans being back every year buying our crap and supporting us no matter how bad our decisions are." facts>feelings
Well it's either this or go shopping with the wife and I rank that activity somewhere between voluntary root canal and watching the View.

Excellent post!

I have no doubt that you understand that Jerry's definition of failure is different than most fans definition of failure.

As long as Jerry and his team is talked about in the season, end of the day, that's what's most important to Jerry than the playoffs (don't get me wrong, Jerry wants to make the playoffs, but as long as his team is talked about, he's ok at the end of day).

If there was ever a time you would blow up the team and start from scratch, it would have been after the Green Bay playoff loss at home. No major changes came after that, and until Jerry dies and perhaps his son does things differently, I honestly don't see the definition of "winning" changing from the Dallas front office ever happening.

Eddie I hear what you’re saying, but how does Philly afford to make all those moves and keep all those players while paying Hurts $51 million?

Or the chargers, bills, and even the jaguars who are going to make the playoffs while paying their QBs over $50 million a yr? The 11-3 rams just extended Stafford two more years at nearly $50 million a year. How are they doing it?

Dak is overpaid for sure but not much more than many of the QBs who are on teams loaded with talent and headed to the playoffs. Besides, who decided to pay Dak $60 million a yr?
By not drafting Schooner, Kelvin, and a bevy of 1st round OLs.

W/ the 58th pick in the draft, we took Schooner. 19 picks later they took edge rusher Byron Young. Who is now considered a top 10 OLB. They then took Kobie Turner w/ the 89th pick, we got Overshown at 90. Trade up.

The Rams don't have a single 1st round OL on their roster.

Agreed.

And it’s worked out so well for the team’s success hasn’t it?

Insanity indeed Mary. And we will soon be hearing an excuse-fest from Jerry with scenarios of “if this had happened earlier”, “if, if, if”.

As you said…If we keep doing what we’ve been doing why would any sane person expect different outcomes?
Haven't you heard? It's injuries and the refs keeping us from the big dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent points DZ.

I’ve always found it strange that in the last two decades, Jerry always wants to “keep the band together” when that band has done almost nothing in the playoffs. It’s one of the many reasons he is a terrible GM. He thinks like a fan.

We all have favorite players and pet cats as fans. It’s just what fans do. Fans are typically emotional, not objective. That explains JJ as a GM. He makes emotional decisions often based on trying to prove he is a “football guy” or personnel guru which he clearly is not.

Instead of making of cold, calculated decisions based on what gives us the absolute best chance to win, he makes decisions based on his personal comfort and marketing instincts. A great idea if you are selling products but a deadly idea if you are focused on winning a championship.

I really don’t know where the ‘Dallas drafts well’ narrative came from. They’ve blown many premium picks, especially day two.

McVay and Snead vs Shoddy and Jerry. As one example, that’s game over before it begins.

They think their failure is about bad luck. That should tell everyone all they need to know. There’s at least a dozen people around here that I’m positive would run the team better than the ones who actually do.

Unfortunately Jerry is an expert at selling failure, and “loves working with his kids.” Ok, yeah great.
