http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...z-not-a-battle-when-other-person-dont-show-up

The smoke had cleared after Thursday's fireworks. And Commanders cornerback Josh Norman was, in his words, still not sure what all the fuss was about.

"It just baffles me that we're going back and forth," Norman told NFL.com by phone after a day of reflection, watching countless media outlets focus on Dez Bryant's comments after their Thanksgivingshowdown. "I don't know if there really is anything to say. What am I going to go back and forth for? It's not a battle. It's not a competition when the other person don't show up. What am I competing against? I compete against myself every week."

Bryant and Norman battled for 60 minutes, then butted heads some more after the game. On the field literally and in the locker room figuratively.

Bryant, the lightning rod of a Cowboys receiver, had sounded off postgame when he told NFL Network's Jane Slater he was "wearing (Norman's) *** out" and that Washington "needs to get their money back."

It was reminiscent of when a 2015 version of then-Panthers cornerback Norman said of Bryant, "Hey, they need to get Dez's $70 million back.

"Come on, man," Norman told me this week. "Be original."

I couldn't imagine what goes on all game with receivers and defenders. There's so much time
Where there's no action and they're usually so islaoted and geared up for every play potentially being a huge one formor agains them individually.

It really seems fun but I think I'd have to be a zero talker. That **** would distract me if I engaged it. I see it as a distraction to dez too. I like when he gets up and talks some **** I would do that stuff but these guys know the book on him is to get in his head.

Dez only had 32 yards against norman. And norman was being dumb and trying to hurt him. Both need to stop.
Agree that both need to stop, but Dez won the majority of their matchups (only truly faced each other 13 times).

Norman also was not trusted to follow him around the field, and the catches that Dez did make over him were big.

Josh can boast all he wants, but he isn't "that dude".

Edit: can't find a source on the '13' snaps. Read it somewhere or heard t on sports radio but cannot confirm. I miss my All-22 account :(

bryant has legit beef though...norman tried to step on his hand and twist his ankle.

But Dez never mentioned any of that did he?
Dez is upset that Norman took a swipe at the amount of money he makes.
Notice, that's one of the first things he says about Norman, and the first criticism he flings at Norman.
This is all about Dez getting into his brain that Norman is saying he's not worth what he makes. He was waiting for, er, payback. Dez may be a good player, but he has a street mentality, i.e., don't mess with my momma, my woman or my money. He doesn't need to vocalize that. Keep it to yourself.
P.S., it wasn't right for Norman to target how much Dez made either, but Norman was trying to get his and was trying to use Dez's contract numbers to show his (Norman's) worth.

That's not true. Norman has to play the scheme the coaches call. Dez caught 3 passes for 32 yards on Norman. I wouldn't necessarily brag about that if I was Dez. Just saying.

That's fair.

It's a semantics issue. They don't feel like they need Norman to shadow other receivers. Fine.

Maybe they don't think that much of Dez either.

I don't really care what the reason is. Norman spouts off like he's a shutdown corner and he isn't.

Just like Dez can only catch the passes he's thrown. He had a drop out of his 5 targets against Norman and I'm not sure about the other miss. He was however open multiple times, sometimes massively, that were missed. Dez should get credit for that and it should be a blemish on Norman. Stats aren't everything and if burn rate were ever to become widespread, Normans "stats" wouldn't look nearly as good as that 3 for 32 does. A WRs job is to get open and catch the passes thrown his way. You can't fault him for getting open, which he routinely was, and not getting targeted. That's on the QB.

Dez had an average day. 5 catches off of 7 targets averaging 14 yards, half of those against Norman. That's what Dez averages every week. Norman hasn't done any better against him than anyone else this year.
