I can't say I'm excited because of his track record. What concerns me with Norv isn't his ability to design a game plan to expose the weaknesses of the other team. It's his ability to motivate, instill discipline, and pay attention to details. Another thing that concerns me is whether he can garner the respect of the personnel on our team, especially a guy like T.O., and whether he can handle problems concerning the latter and other members of the team if issues arise. I don't really look at his time in Oakland to make a judgement. That's been wiped away from history as far as I'm concerned.
But, his 'Skins teams prior to Danny boy had what seemed to be problems of discipline. Was it his fault? I'm not really certain, because the talent on those teams were pretty bad. He seemed to lose a lot of close games there. Maybe the fact that they didn't do well was because of the personnel and not the coaching. I mean, look at our team this year. We had so many penalties, and Tuna was supposed to be that disciplinarian where those type of things just don't happen. So, maybe it just was the personnel. If so, then that doesn't bode well for our team either.
I'm not really certain what to expect. I would like his return to cause a reinstallment of that '90s magic, but lightning usually doesn't strike twice in the same place.
