Dallas is JG's last HC job. After next season he will never be a HC in the NFL again.

I read yesterday that Pete Carroll worked 20 hour days most of the season this year. He Slept in his office 5 nights a week, even made his closest family members make appointments to see him. Extreme? Absolutely. However, he has a trophy now. He learned from the guys who taught him how to have a work ethic, and eventually win at every level. JG never even lead a group of teenagers to a win. How'd anyone expect him to lead a group of grown men???

This is a radical business -- if you plan to win.

And this work ethic is what winning coaches have.
They don't have another life, and don't want or need one.
Hobbies? Film study.
R&R? Creating scheme wrinkles with other coaches.
Fun? Winning is all the fun they'll ever need.

Would be nice if the athletes we choose have the same level of commitment -- might lead to championships.

No sure how this thread turned into the garrett qualification debate but a player said they dont watch enough film.
That in itself should have this whole fan base worried.

Either the message about hard work and study being necessary to succeed isnt getting through OR the players we have dont live the game enough to want to succeed.
Just because a guy is a RKG doesnt mean he loves the game, lots of guys we deem not rkg and are off our drsft board could very well be the EXACT type we need to win. Passion, love of the game, heart and will to win will not be found in just in choir boys

Good point in defining RKG.

Is Michael Irvin the RKG?
Some would say they don't want that personality on their team. But this isn't the debate team, and consensus opinion from the 90's Cowboys was that Irvin was the hardest working, most passionate driving force behind that group's success.

Of course you want a formula, a mold for picking successful athletes. Problem is, that fire which motivates may also burn you, and that fire which burns the brightest may burn out early. (lame reference to Blade runner) Makes personnel decisions almost as interesting as the game itself.

Like you said "I think", all we know Is that he was more effective than JG has been.

To be fair, wade never dealt with the injuries JG has had to deal with on the defensive side of the ball...also Garrett was a decent sized chunk of Wade's success here, being the brains behind the offense and all.

RKG has clearly been defined as guys who love the game above all else.
They want the true gymrat types.

Lots of fair criticisms of Garrett but that isn't one imho.

various:
JG will get another head coaching job if he gets fired here.
Like Carroll and Belichek and many others being fired once is hardly some deathknell for a career.
Most assume Garrett will be a far better head coach in 5 years than he is now.
That's rather how it works with young coaches.
And even if he has a crap 2014 he'll have a better career coaching record than many guys who got 2nd looks.

We know there was a considerable amount of film study done by Tony Romo and Sean Lee.
If other players are not matching that it seems a player issue as much as an organizational one.

The NFL is very much a meritocracy.
People that do not work hard do not last.

I put this on Jones more than Garrett. This has been a problem going back to Parcells.

This is why Jerry the owner is worse than Jerry the GM.
