Losing tonight might not be the final nail, but winning tonight is vital. Win tonight and then beat Philly, and the Thanksgiving game means nothing. If Philly loses to Seattle and then we beat Philly, all of a sudden, we're in first place in the division.

So yea, losing might not be the end, totally...but it's basically a must-win.

Yeah, this is not correct. A loss tonight and we are screwed.

The two teams we are chasing play each other this weekend. So that means

If we beat bears...we back in division race

If we lose to bears.....nothing changes or we get 6th seed if lions lose

So after Sunday will either be the 6th seed, in the same situation before tonight game or tied with the eagles with a chance to erase what happened on turkey day.

So the game that is a must win is next week against the eagles not tonight

That's good news.

If the Cowboys win the rest of their games and the Eagles lose to Seattle, then the Cowboys win the division.

Cowboys 8 current wins + 4 future wins = 12 wins

Eagles 9 current wins + 2 future wins = 11 wins

One slight nit. To have a legit shot at the division, we need to win tonight and have Philly lose to Seattle.

If Philly beats Seattle, even if we win, we would need Philly to lose to either the Giants or Commanders. That's not happening. Next week's game against Philly is largely irrelevant if Philly beats Seattle Sunday (again, unless you think they will drop a turd to the Giants or Skins). So tonight is pretty damn important for the division.

Furthermore, if we lose tonight and Seattle wins Sunday, we are now a game behind Philly in the division and a game behind Seattle for that WC spot.

So pretty much tonight is a must win IMO if you want the Cowboys to control their destiny.

Philly will lose one of those games. Probably New York.

According to FiveThirtyEight, a loss tonight would reduce our chances of making the playoffs from 49% to 30%, while a win would increase it 12 points to 61%. They have the Wild Card as our much more favorable route of making the playoffs, and Detroit and SF are playing very bad teams this weekend. So this is a very big game, and a loss absolutely would hurt us.

I wouldn't bet on Philly losing to NY or Wash this time around. They have folded and won't play them nearly as tough as they would against Dallas. Philly's only real chance to lose another game is this weekend.

It might be in our best interest for Seattle to lose(if we win tonight). If we both win, we are still a game behind but would lose on the tie-breaker to the Eagles.....we would also have to win out and pray that they lose one to the cellar dwellers,.... that won't happen IMO.

This is all based on the fact that I think we won't win in Philly. We need SEA to drop along with either DET or SF.

If we lose and Detroit loses, we still don't have the 6th seed. Play with the generator some. You are also failing to account for three more weeks of teams above or just below us for that playoff spot, some of whom play each other....meaning some team won't lose ground on us. But, if we lose tonight, it is all but said and done due to not winning very many tie-breakers. This NFC game is very important..................

Even though a win would be good I'm not making this game a do or die. I will save all that energy for next week if we somehow lose tonight

Play action on first down, play action on first down, come on say it with me. Please play action on first down.

Keys tonight is to not be so predictable on first down and stopping their running game.

I can't root for Seattle to lose to Philly.

The Cowboys have small chance to win the division and that's what I'm rooting for them to accomplish.

I can't either, will never root for Philthy. But, if they win, I won't lose any sleep over it, that game is a win-win for us as far as playoffs go.

I say this to myself every week but this game is going to tell a lot about this team and it's coaches. There are no excuses. Romo and Co had a full week and they are as "healthy" as the rest of the league. If we lay another egg like last week, it will tell me that this team is soft and has no mentality to take it to the next level with our current coaching/players. If we lose in a high scoring dog fight, it will obviously tell me that we may need more talent on defense (as most in here have said) and some stronger back up player support. If we lose in a low scoring dog fight, it will tell me that our offense has been uncovered and predicable (as many have said in here) and needs a strategy overhaul. Not sure if Garret is capable of this but...is what it is.
On the other side if we dominate and win big, we'll stand toe to toe next week in phili and who knows from there but it will tell me that Garret and Co has the ability to coach this team out of the doldrums to a new level and mentality. If we barley win, we'll limp into the rest of December and probably go 2-2 at best and miss the playoffs. That has been the status quo for the last several years and I don't think it's going to get better if we split Dec. You can say all we need is a few more pieces year after year but the fact is that for every bright spot in a position we fill, you need to fill in a dark spot that we lost to age or injury. It's about coaching up players with a winning mentality no matter who's on the field of play. You see it year in and out with some teams ie. New England, Green Bay, Seattle, Phili, Den by filling in those gaps with a system on both sides of the ball that works.
I'm throwing all statistics (good and bad) out the window. It's a new season and it's all in front of them. Find a way to win and keep breathing, otherwise step aside as a pretender and watch the contenders move forward. There's a winning mentality that has to come with it however also a physical *** kicking in the trenches that this team must dish out to win. I saw glimpses of it in Seattle earlier this year and at home against New Orleans.
Lets get back to that mentality tonight. Cowboys on 3. One, two, three COWBOYS!!!

Really hope the Cowboys find a way to get a win tonight or Friday we will see a ton of threads telling everyone that the loss means nothing, still in the thick of things and so on.

They need to win.

Tonight and in reality if they really want into the playoffs they simply have to win out.

Hoping for the Wildcard, at this point, is a bad idea. With the Cards and the 49ers both holding Tie breakers over us we simply do not want it to come down to a wildcard spot.

Maybe that's just my opinion.
