I say this to myself every week but this game is going to tell a lot about this team and it's coaches. There are no excuses. Romo and Co had a full week and they are as "healthy" as the rest of the league. If we lay another egg like last week, it will tell me that this team is soft and has no mentality to take it to the next level with our current coaching/players. If we lose in a high scoring dog fight, it will obviously tell me that we may need more talent on defense (as most in here have said) and some stronger back up player support. If we lose in a low scoring dog fight, it will tell me that our offense has been uncovered and predicable (as many have said in here) and needs a strategy overhaul. Not sure if Garret is capable of this but...is what it is.
On the other side if we dominate and win big, we'll stand toe to toe next week in phili and who knows from there but it will tell me that Garret and Co has the ability to coach this team out of the doldrums to a new level and mentality. If we barley win, we'll limp into the rest of December and probably go 2-2 at best and miss the playoffs. That has been the status quo for the last several years and I don't think it's going to get better if we split Dec. You can say all we need is a few more pieces year after year but the fact is that for every bright spot in a position we fill, you need to fill in a dark spot that we lost to age or injury. It's about coaching up players with a winning mentality no matter who's on the field of play. You see it year in and out with some teams ie. New England, Green Bay, Seattle, Phili, Den by filling in those gaps with a system on both sides of the ball that works.
I'm throwing all statistics (good and bad) out the window. It's a new season and it's all in front of them. Find a way to win and keep breathing, otherwise step aside as a pretender and watch the contenders move forward. There's a winning mentality that has to come with it however also a physical *** kicking in the trenches that this team must dish out to win. I saw glimpses of it in Seattle earlier this year and at home against New Orleans.
Lets get back to that mentality tonight. Cowboys on 3. One, two, three COWBOYS!!!
