NO RESTRUCTURING!!!!! Narrowing from Peter to pay Paul is no way to pay u r bills....

Actually it's the smartest way when you factor in the cap rising every year and the present value of money and all that. It is an interest free loan and allows aggressive teams to spend way over the salary cap every year.

Ndamukong Suh would be the starting UT.

Tyrone Crawford would be his back-up.

Even if both play on passing downs, you are still limiting the development of the best young DL on the roster at this time.

I don't see any reason to go that route.

And the money some fans want to pay to sign Suh, should Detroit let him leave, should have Dez Bryant's name on it.

The Dez money is separate. This is Melton and Carr money.

You could say the same thing about Romo, Dez, TSmith or Carr. At least with Suh you know you are getting an All-Pro

It doesn't have to be an either or situation. You can still draft DL in the first and sign one of these super cheap edge rushers that everyone here knows about, but no other NFL teams do.

frankly you remind me of the Old Jerruh. Shiny toys. Suh is a shiny toy that is not that important to WHAT WE NEED which you refuse to admit. EDGE RUSHER.

I want to draft a DE and sign one in FA, but I do want to know who all these cheap DEs are

NO one said they were cheap - that is your imagination working on desperately trying to claim SUH is our savior.

What was said that we could very probably get TWO DECENT EDGE RUSHERS for the price of SUH ALONE.

Finance major here buddy... it's actually the dumbest thing to consistently do.

Amen. Getting to 50M entails kicking the can down the road in the future. Which means not having enough space to keep long term deals for Dez, Tyron, Fredbeard, Martin, etc

Have to disagree. I think we have to kick the can down the road because what difference does it make if you can sign all those guys and have Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback?

I'm not saying run the salary cap into the ground, I'm saying a little more all in now rather than saving a little more for later.

The Dez money is separate. This is Melton and Carr money.

We may not get Brandon Carr to agree to a pay cut.

If he's a June release, we don't get the cap savings until June 2nd, so it's not wise to include him in any salary cap plan.

The team has to set aside $13M in cap space so they can use the franchise tag before free agency stats, should it become necessary.

So it's best to go ahead and include Dez Bryant under the tag in a top 51 projection.

When I look at a projected top 51, I include tendering exclusive rights and restricted free agents along with 2015 dead money currently on the books.

There is a ton of wiggle room here, Doug Free and Carr make take pay cuts (which I don't project because it's unknown) and some of the RFAs may get extensions instead of tenders (again, I can't project because it's unknown).

Based on a $145M cap, we could be looking at around $16.4M in available cap room post tagging Dez and tendering EFAs and RFAs.

I'm counting Carr as a June 1st cut. That 8m is for the draft, the full 53 man roster, the practice squad, IR guys and a little insurance.

The money for Dez is already there, at 145m Dallas is already close to 17m under the cap

Restructuring Romo, Witten and TSmith(only if needed) is another major source of funds

Cutting Melton is another 8m

The moves are there to be aggressive. I'm tired of passing on all the top guys.

24. Kyle Wilber $0.769805K
25. J.J. Wilcox $0.751517K
26. Josh Brent $0.745K
27. James Hanna $0.686213K
28. Brandon Weeden $0.660K
29. Jack Crawford $0.660K
30. Joseph Randle $0.632220K
31. Anthony Hitchens $0.618716K
32. Jeff Heath $0.585668K
33. Devin Street $0.560493K
34. Kenneth Boatright $0.510K
35. Ken Bishop $0.510K
36. Donald Hawkins $0.510K
37. Dustin Vaughan $0.510K
38. Tyler Patmon $0.510K
39. Keith Smith $0.510K
40. Ben Gardner $0.449793K
41. Chris Whaley $0.436666K

That's 41 players with a cap hit of $130.488177M

Exclusive Rights Free Agents

42. Ronald Leary $0.585K
43. Darrion Weems $0.585K
44. Cam Lawrence $0.585K

That's 3 players with a cap hit of $1.755M.

Restricted Free Agents

45. Cole Beasley 2nd rd tender $2.405M (10% max possible increase)
46. Lance Dunbar 2nd rd tender $2.405M
47. Sterling Moore 2nd rd tender $2.405M
48. Chris Jones right of 1st refusal tender $1.455M (no draft pick compensation)

That's 4 players with a cap hit of $8.67M.

49. Ryan Williams $0.660K
50. Mister Alexander $0.585K
51. Ryan Miller $0.510K

That's 3 players with a cap hit of $1.755M.

Dead money $7.953849M.

That's an initial top 51 of $150.622026M before any moves are made.

Tony Romo and Tyron Smith will restructure, which can create $20M or more ($130.622026M).

Doug Free (save $7.04M) and Henry Melton's (save $8.4995M) deals will void, Troy Davis ($510K) and R.J. Dill ($435K) replace them in the top 51 ($116.027526M).

The WR tag with a $145M unadjusted cap is $12.98M.

Adding Dez and removing Davis leaves us at $128.572526M.

Dallas' adjusted cap would be $148.26074M in this scenario.

So we'd be looking at +/- $19.688214M to use in free agency depending on what happens with Dez, Free and Brandon Carr.

right off the bat I dump Dunbar, Jones and Dekota Watson thats another 4m

I redo Witten for another 3m, signing Dez long term gets his cap number down 5m- thats leaves us at 32m

Guys to sign- Parnell, McClain, Durant/Carter, Murray/vet RB= 12m

That leaves 20m to sign a DT and DE, still keeping Carr's 8m in reserve for after June 1st

If Suh goes crazy and wants 16m then we can pass, but if he stays in the 12-13m range we should be in

These suggestions are what created the cap situation that forced the team to dump its expensive pass rusher. Now we have a thread arguing that we need to repeat the same behavior in order to create a salary cap situation to sign another expensive pass rusher.

The Ware contract was one of the best contracts the team has signed in the salary cap era. He earned every dime for several years and was able to restructure a few times to help the team out. He was cut when his production no longer matched his salary, as it's supposed to work.

For you to use the Ware contract as an example of a bad contract shows how little you know about the salary cap and contracts in general.

And for you to assume I said anything about the quality of the Ware contract shows how little reading comprehension you have in general. Seriously, knock it off with the pretentious chest beating.
