Not trying to look ahead because this Jets game is making me a little jittery, but, I was watching the NFL Channel late last night and the Packers players were talking about their "5 wide" set and how NOBODY will be able to stop it. And, so far, it seems that noone has!

So, how do you propose that the Cowboys can stop it? Any of you football gurus out there have any ideas?

I would hate to have to try and out shoot them in the scoring department, so how can it be done and do the Cowboys have the personnel to do it?

I don't know how often they run it, but it seems really foolish to come in against dallas and try to run a set with an empty backfield and no one to help one of the tackles on either Ellis or Ware. Farve can still move but not like he once did, he would get killed back there if they ran that set often.

From what they were saying last night is that they run it a great deal of the time. They showed clips of some of their games and Brett had the ball out in a flash to one of the receivers! Someone was ALWAYS open...

With the "5 Wide" set, they are giving minimum protection to Favre, which will enable our DLine and OLBs to get to Favre quicker, at the sametime, Safetys and CBs must do their job and blanket their assigned player.

If the DLine and OLBs can't get to Favre with this set, then we'll be in for a long day.

He gets the ball out fast but on short routes, we have to make sure tackles and we'll be fine. I like the fact that their corners play alot of man coverage. I see us beating them alot cause our oline gives Romo plenty of time to hit our recievers for big gains... I don't mind a shoot out with the Pack, we can score with anybody in the league...

Let's see how the Lions try and stop it...

Do you think the Lions even have a chance in the game today?

tackle and we are fine... thats right.... it seems to be our philosophy anyways.... give them the short stuff... so it plays into our defense...

AND.... I think Henry will like this.... he will no doubt get a jump on some routes

I guess we'll all get a scouting report today on how much they use it against the Lions.
Another thing about 5 wide is you usually either score quick, turn it over quick or punt quick. Not a lot of long drives in that set. So you would be giving Dallas more possessions and leaving your defense out there longer than normal. More shots for Romo to take and we have seen gameplans where Garrett calls plays in the first half which run the defense all over the field in the 1st half (Miami game comes to mind) and the D is tanked by the 4th quarter.

Lions have atrocious pass defense and packers have a decent defense so I'm gonna have to go with packers and if Favre does protect the ball, then they will win by a big margin.

If our CB's give their normal 10 yard cushion to WRs when they are in a 5 WR set we're toast. We have to at least bump the receivers at the line. We won't have to cover them very long because Ware and Ellis will get there in a hurry with 5 receivers running routes and only 5 linemen to block.

You haven't watched much GB football have you? They run alot of quick slants and 3 step drops. Our pass rush wont be much of an impact in that game.

The Packers strengths play right into our weaknesses. It will be a very, very tough game.

i would go 2 down linemen on that...run that weird D where no one sets and then if you are only rushing two defenders you can cover 5 people with 9...but mix it up, obviously we cant do it alot...thats just one thing i would do

Not a bad idea. Hopefully Wade implements something creative into his gameplan...because if there is any game we're going to need some "trick" formations or plays, the Pack game will be the one.

Sign better corners this week?

It worries me, too. Driver has always been very underrated, and guys like Jennings are very good. And of course, Favre is experienced enough to always know where to go with the ball. I'm afraid they're going to wear out Reeves and Henry. We're going to have to get a couple turnovers and tackle well. The Lions today missed a ton of tackles on short completions that turned into first downs.

perhaps but it isn't like anyone has stopped us on offence this year so why should anyone think the Packers can?

Because the Packers have the best set or corners we've faced this year, and they matchup against our WR's VERY well. They run the same type of offense that NY ran against us in week one. Lots of short quick passes, then a double move over the top for the deep ball.

Plain and simple, Green Bay matches up against us far better than any team we've faced this year. I'm not saying they're going to "stop" us, but we're not unbeatable. It can happen. And unless we play a really good game next week, it could happen.
