I guess it helped his WRs drop several passes....

Several of teh "drops" were poor throws because of a good pass rush, like the one over Harrison's head and the one juggled on the sideline by Wayne because it was thrown too far outside.

I was at the game and can think immediately of two drops where it hit them easily in the hands and they were wide open. They dropped them. This is the second time we beat a team with the case of the dropsies.

None of the drops would have signifigantly changed the outcome of the game

Also due to hard hitting and the WR's hearing footsteps.

You cant defend the field and leave Manning untouched... the combo works great... as witnessed yesterday

Come on. Give credit where credit is due.

There WRs knew Roy Williams around. He laid great wood on Utecht (sp?) right off the bat. He was in there heads. Period.

You must of watched a different game than I did but I didn't see a "jailhouse-break" blitz on every down. The big difference between this game and many of the others?

The defensive line showed some consistent pass rush.

What is most effective is when you can rush 3-4-5 guys and get some pressure. What helped us yesterday, was we got good pressure without sending the house. That keeps Peyton from feeling comfortable and allows our secondary to cover.

Werent you the guy who said "how many sacks does our d-line have?"

How many did they have yesterday?

Like I said a million times before... we have been getting pressure, sacks help but most of all just look good for stats but its the pressure that gets it done.

How about Newman dropping the INT because Roy felt like tackling him? Or Ware batting down Manning's pass near the goalline, a pass he could have picked off and run in for the score?

True story.

That's correct.

And they had two yesterday and I think under the circumstances they did well since the Colts had given up only like 3 the previous 5 games.

The sacks WERE indicative of the pressure.

Feel free to cry "uncle" anytime you wish. :)

I watched the game you did. Our DL collapsed the pocket and got more pressure from the DE's.

Actually they had 1. Ware had the other. I said d-line which is what that old thread was about. Uncle?

No, it wasn't a jailhouse break. The blitz were selective and came from everywhere. Sometimes it was up the middle, sometimes from the left and sometimes from the right.

The key was that we weren't predictable as we have been too often this season. Ware blitzed, which was predictable. But so did Carpenter, James and Newman.

We managed to keep Manning off balance because he often guessed wrong where we were coming from and as a result their protection broke down. And even when we didn't blitz, we got pressure.

Manning will kill you on all-out jailbreaks because they are difficult to disguise. But a varied, selective blitz package can be successful against Peyton Manning because they can be disguised.

And once you get to him early, even Manning will get rattled. And that's what happened at times yesterday.

Until yesterday we weren't getting pressure when rushing 4.....or even on most blitzes. I think the difference was the DL wasn't as concerned with stopping the run.

Maybe HH has one of those older televisions where you get the shadow things.

I agree - and it was partly because he was in coverage and not blitzing.

I never felt like we 'brought the house' yesterday or blitzed incredibly often - just better.

More than anything, I think the best thing about our pass rush wasn't blitzing, but rather our defensive lineman deciding that they wanted to play pass defense as well. It's amazing when your 3-4 lineman remember that they are supposed to be stronger than any 1 OL.
