They’ve been practically meaningless forever….. at least for the past 25+ years.Nobody cares. The other bowls are meaningless.
Yep. I think ND is taking a cautionary page from FSU which got snubbed a few years ago after going undefeated. They ended fielding a team of 3rd stringers and lost something like 63-3 to UGA in a meaningless bowl game and that program hasn't recovered since. They’ve been practically meaningless forever….. at least for the past 25+ years.
They are completely worthless games when you think about it.
IMO it should be a mix of a seniors last game-ones that aren't locks for day 1 or 2 of the draft, and then playing the next in line players.Yep. Now you factor in the portal too and its like whose risking their health playing in these things?
For teams like Memphis or GA tech, bowls are a crowning achievement for a successful season. Most teams don't have realistic playoff aspirations so bowls a consolations prize. Still can't believe JMU and Tulane are in the playoff.IMO it should be a mix of a seniors last game-ones that aren't locks for day 1 or 2 of the draft, and then playing the next in line players.
But do agree overall that the bowl games are fairly meaningless outside of the Universities that would like that payout.
For the bigger schools, it may suck, but for the mid to lower schools it's better than nothing.

I think Tech overachieved and had a great season that could have resulted in a playoff birth. But they aren't going to snub a bowl.I know GaTech most years will never sniff the CFP and I'm fine with that. But they really blew their shot at the CFP this year, or at least getting in through the ACC.
NCSt and Pitt were just poor showing by the team. Maybe the clock struck midnight for their run, but it was just odd how bad they became.
Also, didn't help they ran King into the ground again.

I feel like there is a developing chasm in the college game. Teams like UGA and OSU are built with professional college players hunting for big paydays and/or pro careers. Then there are schools like Tech or JMU which are just true student athletes competing for the love of the game. I enjoy both.
I'm looking forward to the Texas Michigan bowl game. It's not the playoffs but I don't care.Nobody cares. The other bowls are meaningless.
only one crying here is youBunch of sore crybaby losers.
Notre Dame thought they had the whole system figured out.
Create your own schedule. Play 1-2 good teams a year (probably lose), and then play 10-11 bottom of the barrel teams. Free playoff spot every year.
But because the sport wouldn’t let them get away with that, they do this. Losers.
