Notre Dame declines a bowl game after being left out of playoffs

Why don’t they try winning next year? They beat no ranked teams and lost to two CFP teams that will lose in the first round. They think they’re entitled to the CFP because they won a championship 38 years ago?
typical low knowledge post

Losers. ND is the Dallas Cowboys of CFB. Living off the past. Clown coach. Always short. Screw those babies. Beat Miami maybe. Idiots.
made it to the NC game last year so your post looks rather dumb

I remember when there were only the big 4, liberty, gator, and I think one or two more back in the 70's. Back then going to a bowl was really something. Now it is meaningless.
We agree! Plus with the portal, how many players are going to risk it playing in anything less than a playoff? That might be a big reason ND passed. They don't want an FSU-UGA debacle like in 2023.

typical from you
lots of smoke and no fire
I actually root for Notre Dame. I mean, I'm an Oklahoma fan but college football is better when Notre Dame is a contender.

Direct your anger to Jared Palmgren. It's his tweet.

When you consider the special treatment teams like Alabama and Michigan and others get over the years, and now any team pretty much from the SEC, the hatred of ND seems to me due to something else; probably mostly anti religion or anti catholic hatred

Plenty of talent and ** is a very good coach so i doubt that would have happened. But injury certainly is something to think about; look at what happened to Jaylon Smith and there are plenty of others. A lot of this team is coming back next year and believe they will have another shot so giving the system the finger probably appealed to them.
The rumor I have heard was the team had a meeting Saturday night and voted to refuse a bowl if they got snubbed.

Seems lame to me. You didn’t get what you wanted, so now you’re going to rob your players of a bowl game experience? It’s still a bowl game. What about the seniors? Some of them would love one last chance to suit up before they drift off into obscurity.

If the actual team voted to skip it, then they need to get out of their feelings. Everybody is so entitled these days.

I would have had them in.

You've definitely entered The Conspiracy Zone with this one....

they made a choice
if you don't like it bugger off

Notre Dame thought they had the whole system figured out.

Create your own schedule. Play 1-2 good teams a year (probably lose), and then play 10-11 bottom of the barrel teams. Free playoff spot every year.

But because the sport wouldn’t let them get away with that, they do this. Losers.

This x10

Then the BCS games.

Yep. I think ND is taking a cautionary page from FSU which got snubbed a few years ago after going undefeated. They ended fielding a team of 3rd stringers and lost something like 63-3 to UGA in a meaningless bowl game and that program hasn't recovered since.

Now you factor in the portal too and its like whose risking their health playing in these things?
I was wondering if Notre Dame maybe assumes that their best players will opt-out of the bowl game since they expected to be in the CFP.

As a fan, I hate when players opt-out of Bowl games, but if I were them I would do the same thing if it meant putting an NFL contract or even getting into the NFL at risk.

I’m lol’ing, Kstate and Iowa St opted out of bowls too despite being fined by the Big 12. This becomes a huge trend and bowl season was be kaput outside the playoffs. NCAA will throw a fit because of all the lost revenue. This could get interesting.
Looks like Baylor is turning down a bowl game as well. Not sure if they facing any fines.

The only problem with this is that a lot of teams do this, not just Notre Dame.

In years past, losing early was better than losing late so my thinking it if they were trying to game anything it was play tough games early and either 1) win those games by catching the teams before start playing their best football or 2) lose those games and hope stringing together 9 to 10 wins against lesser opponents will make the CFP think you are playing your best football.

Nobody cares. The other bowls are meaningless.
I think a lot of fans care.

I always like bowl game season.
Even the smaller bowls.

For some fans it might be the last time they see a number of players from their team on the field before going to the NFL or Graduating.

I also like that many times the Bowl Games will have two teams facing each other that normally would ever see each other in the regular season.

I understand some players opting out to train for the NFL but I wish they would not.
