Notre Dame declines a bowl game after being left out of playoffs

Notre Dame thought they had the whole system figured out.

Create your own schedule. Play 1-2 good teams a year (probably lose), and then play 10-11 bottom of the barrel teams. Free playoff spot every year.

But because the sport wouldn’t let them get away with that, they do this. Losers.

:hammer: :hammer:

Nope. UT did did not deserve it either.
You are getting kind of desperate
Misread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having fun, dude, not taking this serious. I know what the bottom line here is, money. Plain and simple. The playoffs will be expanded to around 24 teams as the TV contract surpasses the GNP of Spain.

Quit, dude!!!!! I'm not the guy who spats like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are right that it is about money

pretty much everything in the world is about that

if it ain't about money its power or hate

Does amuse me that now you can openly pay the players the SEC is no longer as dominant

Yup.

W/ the expanded playoffs, we were fixin' to create a much larger pool of teams who could contend for a title. And then the courts ruined that by bringing in NIL money, and then they ruined it even more w/ the transfer portal.

This must be controlled, and they're already discussing salary caps. That's the only way to give anyone a chance aside from the 8-10 super rich teams.

It is also amusing how Vandy suddenly rose from the dead to contend. Why? Deep pockets.

College football is changing, and drastically. Not sure how it's going to end up, but man is it going to be different.

Can’t have a salary cap without a players’ union and I don’t see any movement on that front whatsoever.

Quite honestly, IMHO, the players have so much power now, they’d be stupid to unionize.

Now I am quite happy Vanderbilt is now up to dancing with the big dogs and would love to see former doormats taking large bites out of the Alabama's and company, but it is clear that some kind of cap or limit; some kind of control needs to be there. and the portal needs better regulation as well.

There has been. They're discussing it.

big problem with a players union for college is how many thousands of players there are and the relatively short time they are in college vs the pros

Isnt this the concern voiced years ago about the Power 5

This is the beginning of a few elite teams.....and everyone else in tiers downward.
There are 67 teams in the power conferences. NIL has opened the door. You can now just go out and buy UGA's QB as Miami did.

That is why I say that ND got stuff with the CFP that will benefit them more years than not. As long as they are ranked 12 or higher they are automatically in the CFP. So complaining about it this year just wears thin. And you can't blame notre dame for the future top 12 autobid in the future...that is what the teams/conferences decide to approve for the CFP. It is what it is so I would not Melt down or any other type of situation.

I agree with others that Alabama should not be in this year. But I bet Sankey, the SEC and ESPN made sure they were not going to have Bama out of the playoffs two years in a row.

I will also say that the CFP has some weird double standards.

Remember when FSU was left out. They were undefeated, won their conference championship game but they left them out because their starting QB would not be playing.

Now this year....Ole Miss did NOT go undefeated. Ole Miss not only did not win their Conf Championship, they did not even play in the game. Their Coach is gone now....but nobody tried to make the excuse that they are not the same team without their HC like they did with the FSU argument that they are not the same team with their QB.

Again I do not think Alabama should be in. I know ND fans here will hate it but I think BYU should have been in. They lost to the number 4 team in the nation. They lost in the Conference Championship game, the same game that if they would have won both BYU and Tech would be in the CFP. In essence that final Conference champ game makes a difference. This is the part that I think some have a trouble with ND. They do not have to play that conf champ game. If they were members and played in it this year and won, they would be in.

Another thing that irks me. These conferences need to get rid of their two divisions system. They need the best two teams in the conference playing in the conference champ game like the Big 12 does. There should be no reason that a team with Duke's record is playing in the ACC Conf Champ game when other teams were better. It should have been Virginia vs Miami.

I think the G5 should have it's own championship game/playoffs. It could be their version of the NIT. If college football does wind up going to a super league they will be doing their own championship anyway.

However I do think that Tulane should be in the ACC. If SMU can buy their way in, maybe Tulane should as well. I think that Memphis should be in the ACC or the Big 12 as well. Others might disagree with me but that is ok, just my opinion
The FSU argument is weak. There is a HUGE difference between losing your HC and losing your starting QB. I don't care how good your coach might be, they aren't the ones throwing the football and making those split second decisions on the field. This is akin to the Brady -Belechek debate. Belechek probably has no rings on his finger without Brady while Brady proved he can win anywhere. The QB is way more important than the HC and everybody knows it which is why FSU was denigraded back when there were only 4 teams in, and why Ole Miss is still alive in the CFP.

Always makes me laugh so hard those trying to claim it was all Brady
he went to a team that was loaded and right after there were injuries and FA losses he was a loser
LOSING SEASON
Joe Gibbs won three SBs with three separate less than elite QBs
but then facts are something some here are unable to deal with

The 3 previous years that "loaded" team was 5-11, 5-11, 7-9

In 2019 their defense ranked 29th out of 32 in points allowed

Brady shows up in 2020 and they immediately win a Super Bowl.

But, yeah, his impact was probably minimal. Just old TB12, along for the ride.....:muttley:

so Brady played Defense as well
and chose the coaching staff
handled FA
I never can believe some people here
