Now that they have done the undefeated regular season.... I have a feeling the SpyGate story will resurface.

Resurface each and every week until SB.

I know many want to discount it and let "time" make it seem less significant.

But it is what it is. Caught cheating, commissioner burns the evidence, no suspensions and then go undefeated?

To this day, I still cannot understand why all the evidence was burned before it was made public. Why do this? Why would you burn the evidence and not just keep it in a file cabinet or something, it is not like it had nuclear launch codes on it and had to be burned for national security.

All the evidence is burned, no suspensions for anybody, and the refs help the Pats go 16-0.

UN-FREAKING BELIVABLE:banghead:

Yeah, you're right.

Talent obviously had nothing to do with the Patriots going 16-0.

Please, this is kind of far fetched. Sure, the cheating thing can be brought up.. but what was speculated was recording defensive signals of the mighty New York Jets - right? They DID lose a 1st round pick - which is a pretty big punishment. Their coach was fined a handsome sum(despite him getting a huge extension the next week...)

I'll just admit they had a great season, and just beat the moral **** out of most of their opponents. I love the Cowboys thick and thin, but can't take away from their amazing season.

I will admit that they had a great season.

But YOU nor anyone can tell me or anyone else to what extent/effect their cheating ways had on ANY game... past or present. You just cant. That is my point.

As you can't tell me it did, because nobody has proof, and it's pure speculation, in terms of the effect the "cheating" had on the outcome of their season.

OK, then the Patriots should be given one loss simply because they were stupid enough to cheat against the Jets. Why would they do such a thing?

They were in the habit of cheating, and that's what they are.

%* x - Patriots

x-clinched home field advantage
*-caught cheating
%-should actually be banned from the playoffs this year.

Dude.....what about the previous Super Bowls* that the Patriots* won under Belichick*?

Nobody knows the outcome because the evidence was destroyed.

*fined for violating league rules...i.e. cheating.

Doesn't matter. It will be with them from now on IMO. It will always resurface when it comes to the Patriots long after this season.

I agree. And they were hardly punished at all. If there was ever a team that could give up a bottom first round draft pick without feeling it, it is this year's Patriots. They will most likely STILL end up with two first round picks that are better than ours if they trade down.

It was a travesty that there were no suspensions for their coach when our own Wilson caught a five game suspension because of his NFL-rules-violating attempt at treating erectile dysfunction. $500,000 fine isn't chump change I know. But BB ended up making MORE this year in the end. What did it really cost him? It ended up costing the owner less than a million and one draft pick to wash this all away. Any owner in the league would gladly pay that much more to gain an advantage.

They get an asterisk next to their season and every superbowl they've won. Wait 20 years and see if it still isn't brought up EVERY time their dominance is mentioned.

/rant off

Word was the cheating went back years. If it had a neglible effect on the outcome of games, why do it in the first place? As someone pointed out, the "punishment" was skewed - one QUARTERBACK'S COACH suspended and fined I believe 1/3 of his salary for seeking to administer to health issues while the HEAD COACH who was privy to in-game cheating gets a slap on the wrist as a fine, and the team loses ONE draft pick.

Unfortunately, in terms of how this team is remembered, that is largely determined by how much of a story the press deems the cheating issue to be. If this season is any indication, I don't think much will be made of it from here out.

I have yet to have heard it mentioned it by any of the media since their victory last night.

Yes, I give them an undefeated season. But first and foremost, I will always think of them, and Belichick in particular, as not deserving their due for their willingness to damage the integrity of the game. Which means I simply have no respect for them and what they previously accomplished.

And the resident patsie fan can't stop but defend his team.

Paties got caught cheating, they were found guilty and paid fine, there is no denying of these facts.

Yep...

Everytime you hear mid nineties Cowboys, you always hear the disclaimer of "Neil O'Donnel giving us the game", "Michael Irvin/cocaine", "Whitehouse"...

The media always wants to put things in a negative light...

also, jimmy doesn't know the whole extent of the cheating. more importantly, WHAT JIMMY WAS DOING WAS NOT AGAINST THE RULES when he did it. We know for a FACT that BB and the Pats did something against the rules, and when you do something against the rules to try and gain an unfair advantage....that is one of the definition of cheating
