AMELIA, Ohio -- Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Deltha O'Neal was charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday after being stopped at a traffic checkpoint.

The two-time Pro Bowl player had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10, above Ohio's legal limit of 0.08, the State Highway Patrol said. O'Neal was alone in his car and arrested at the scene, Sgt. Kevin Long said. O'Neal took a breath test and was released.

He is to appear in Clermont County Municipal Court on Dec. 12. The seven-year veteran is the eighth Bengals player arrested this year. Rookie receiver Reggie McNeal was charged with resisting arrest this week outside a Houston nightclub.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said Saturday he was unaware of this latest arrest. The team withholds comment on unresolved charges against players, he said.

That has to be some kind of record....

Ha Pretty funny actually. Just read this yesterday on page 2. Bill Simmons is usually a pretty funny writer. I pulled this excerpt from his Power Rankings.

8. Cincinnati
A riveting season that included seven players getting arrested (and counting), the rejuvenation of Ocho Cinco and Carson Palmer, some remarkably weird games (the win over Pittsburgh, the losses to San Diego and Atlanta), goofy fantasy seasons, season-ending injuries and everything else you could imagine. And you know what? I like the way the Bengals are playing right now. So there you go. You can't call them a sleeper because nobody's sleeping on them.

Now that we have that settled -- what about seven Bengals players getting arrested out of 53? That's 13 percent of the team! Imagine if 13 percent of your office or classroom had been arrested in the past few months? Can they get to 10 before the end of the season? You figure with holiday parties coming, that's good for one DUI. And the holidays bring visitors and family members, which usually brings trouble, so that's good for some sort of incident at a party or a club. So we only need one more wild-card arrest -- something harmless like speeding and attempting to evade an officer, or shoplifting a Christmas present of something -- and then we'll be at 10. Now that would be something. Ten Bengals arrested in one year? We'll be telling our grandkids about that one. Keep your fingers crossed.

Two more to go!

Bad luck. He was barely over the legal limit. Probably one beer too many. Sucks.

...bad luck. That's pure stupidity. Even up here in Canada the NFL fans know about the legal troubles Bengals players have been experiencing.

O'Neal is stupid to have ignored the situation during the holiday season and not get himself a taxi.

The past five years has told me that NFL GMs are not getting tough enough on player behavior and the owners have to renegotiate that part of the CBA to be much more strict.

SIMPLY amazing...

the EIGHTH player arrested from ONE team in ONE year...and whether Terrell Owens did or did not hear a Monday speech is what the talking heads at ESPN are discussing.

These 8 idiots do more harm to the image of the NFL, their team and every player in the league than anything Terrell has done this season. Just sick how ESPN and others ignore these guys and continue to focus on non-stories.

Go Cowboys!

Cannot understand how the Bengals continue to get a free pass. 8 players arrested just this year. What kind of team does Cincy have & whose in charge cause apparently their H/C isn't. Don't understand how the NFL head office isn't alarmed by what's happening & why one of their reps hasn't confronted Cincy FO. Maybe we should coin a new name for the Bengals --besides the obvious Alcatraz East but all I can come up with are the following: Cincinnati PrisonBreakers, Cincinnati Jailbirds, Cincinnati Redhots or Cincinnati Arrestees.

What's even more annoying is we know how badly Cowboys would be treated if even one of our players got arrested and if 8 players got arrested in one year, the media and other teams' fans would be calling for our disbandment.

Anyway, does anybody have a forum for the Bengals. Sure like to read their board.

Agree and sure would like it if somehow subject inadvertently came up in a Parcells PC. Maybe we get lucky and a Cincinnati writer is there and asks a question about TO distracting the team or whatever and Parcells responds with: "I haven't seen you before...where are you from and reporter answers Cincinnati, then after a brief pause.... Parcells says Oh Cincinnati. Hmm...Jeez you reporters must be busy up there keeping track of all the goings on. Should bring a laugh from other reporters in the room cause you know (and everyone listening/attending the PC) will know and probably will report it in their papers, ESPN, etc.

Well if he's now going to be suspended by the league for substance abuse then this is news.

Getting stopped at a check and blowing .10 is hardly news IMO. It hasn't been that long that was no cause for arrest. I'm not saying I agree or don't with the nation's policy on driving while impaired. I don't want to argue that.

But this is not an agregious offense unless it's a repeated one. It's too easy to have ONE drink and blow a .10. I'm not familiar with any other arrests of him or the others but this one appears to be as soft as a DUI can be.

The number of arrests appears too be way excessive so my comments are limited to this one.

Uhhh... I'm not sure what you're drinking, but one drink isn't going to make you blow a .10.

Your typical drink is a +.02 for your BAC, and the body processes .02 worth of alcohol in one hour. So if you've blown a .10, you've had AT LEAST 5 drinks... depending on how long you've been drinking.

He weighs about 200 pounds. To blow a .10 he would have to drink about 7 drinks in 2 hours to get that drunk.

What's really funny is callers on local talk radio would call and make fun of T.O. and the cowboys. T.O. has never done anything illegal and he gets villified. They need to check themselves and build a betty ford clinic outside of paul brown stadium before they cast any stones.

You're chasing the right ambulance - you're talking to an MD, counselor.

But you guys have a way of working things out. ;)
