The stadium was a strange place to hold it. The sound echoed and at one point it sounded like a big plane was going through the stadium or they were at the ocean. It might have been the air conditioners. Whatever it was, it was loud and annoying.

It was strange not to see the Pepsi, Ford, or Papa Johns advertisements behind them. Though the big AT & T thing in the background does stick out a bit. As do the people walking behind the speakers. A bit distracting.

My favorite moments from the PC were Garrett talking about what he perceives as the "Cowboy Way" (already discussed in a thread here), him saying it is a physical game and TC will be physical, and he said the players will have to earn it in training camp.

Garrett cannot be sand bagged by the media. There are so many misconceptions about the inner workings of a football team, and especially this team. They are not going to let the media build a false wall.

Hos, can you expand a little on your last paragraph? I agree with the general concept and I'm interested in your more specific thoughts. Thanks.

Yes, Camp Cupcake is a thing of the past. I think JG wants to bring a more physical element to TC and practices similar to what was done under Jimmy Johnson. I'm excited about what is in store now that JG can do it his way.

A physical presence and identity is exactly what this team needs.

Big offensive line but we don't pound, intimidate or wear down anyone.

We've been drafting defense and front 7 forever but we don't hit or instill fear in opposing offenses.

We need to be Pittsburgh or Baltimore tough up front on both sides.

I will let Host answer that himself, but I will give my opinion.

There is a reason, Jerry came out so strong about Jason having control of the team makeup. Because Media/Fans have been killing him about it. And secondary to that is, somehow, some fans/media (especially Media) think somehow Jason will Jerry's puppet. Not sure some fans/media will ever change that opinon, no matter what.

So I believe, in coming weeks/months, there will be some deliberate assertiveness from either Garrett or Jerry, about Jason being in control of many of decisions.

I have my issues with Jerry, mainly, his selection of coaches ( never had issues with his talent selection, since everyone has hits and misses) and the perception he gives in media about his coach not being in control ( although his coaches are mostly). I think Jerry finally decided, its high time he made sure, that he needs to change that perception.

Its gotten so bad that even players were whispering that coach is not in control on who plays etc. When it gets to that point, I think Jerry has to make sure, there is no gray area, at least within team and most fans/Media.

Granted not all fans will buy that or believe that.

The media cannot get past the image of Jerry as meddler. Garrett is not going to play that game. He flat out said that many minds get together to make these far reaching decisions. Not that they will do it that way going forward. That is already the way it is done.

I want to emphasize this for a minute, because I really don't think people grasp this. There is no such thing as a one man show GM in the NFL. Not on this team. Not on any team. There is an entire staff of people who have a "board meeting" (for lack of a better term) and they discuss pros and cons to every decision.

Letting go of TO for example. Does anyone believe that was Jerry, and only Jerry? If anyone does, they should not. Wade Phillips had input. Stephen Jones had input. Todd Williams had input. Jerry as GM discussed the idea with Jason Garrett and Tony Romo because it directly affected both of them.

Jerry is the tie breaker. He has final say. But let me emphasize this very loudly, there are very few ties. This team is organized and focused on what they want to do and where they want to go.

The media do not grasp this. They believe and sell a portion of the fans that the Head Coach has no input other than to agree with Jerry. Not true. Has never been true.

Now, the false wall analogy. The media already want to wage a war over Training Camp locales. Shot down. They want to wage a war over the choosing of a staff. Shot down. They want there to be walls that they can point to as a reason for failure and they want it to be an issue they can point at. Garrett doesn't let the ideas even foster.

Asked about TC, he said this is not the time to discuss that.

Asked about his staff, evaluations of the team have to be completed first.

Asked about if he demanded stuff before he signed the contract, he emphasized comfort with how the process works.

Three up, three down.

I did like the 'physical' aspect of the press conference. That was very re-assuring.

However, I didn't really come away impressed or anything from the PC. It was more or less the same as every other speech Garrett gives. Nothing specific, just general politician type talk.

Don't get me wrong, I like Garrett as a coach. But a press conference is a press conference. All I really got out of it was that Garrett would make a good politician.

One other observation from the Press Conference,

JG stood at the podium - like he always does addressing the media after games, etc. when he was the interim HC.

That, of course, had JJ also addressing the media standing up.

Standing up and addressing the media makes JG appear "presidential" and very professional, imo.

Ozzie Newsome interviewed Garrett for HC in Baltimore and said he felt he was under achieving, that he should run for President.

Hell of a compliment really.

Another point that may have been missed in the progression...

Jerry pointed out that he knew without a doubt, that Jason Garrett was committed 24/7 at improving the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry stated that it was a privilege for himself, his family, and those in the organization to represent the Dallas Cowboys. I this was media pointer due to the flames going about on reputation following Dan Reeves and his contract dispute on just this aspect. Jason probably didn't have a similar clause, as he has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was his core belief allready...

Very telling.

Also, I think Red changed the press conference venue to get the press out of their comfort zone.

They probably did not notice it but everything Garrett did is to the manipulation of the moment and the establishment of his authority. Asking them how they are doing or telling the mediots to have a good day demonstrates that he is comfortable in front of them. Standing behind the podium shows that he is the one in charge, the one who is presiding over them, head honcho, etc...

I like Wade but he was an easy target to pick on by our sorry media. It is clear thus far that Garrett is the hunter and not the prey.

It is nice to hear Jason Garrett talk about the team becoming more physical and yes practicing to be more physical will help but it goes deeper then that. They have to get away from the finesse players like Dat, Coakley, Brooking, Ball, Lee etc and start to bring in players who are physical, especially on the defensive side of the ball. It starts at LB and Safety in my opinion. Ware and Sensabaugh are the only 2 players that HIT any one with bad intentions, unfortunately Sensabaugh is usually out of position so his hits are far and few in between.

Our defense is way too much like Indy's and not nearly enough like Pit, Balt and Chicago in my opinion.

Yet....some fans will never grasp this.........Its funny to see the agenda's...the hatred towards Jerry Jones.

The media has influenced fans so much....on what to think....and most of the time...its not even close to being the truth.

The media wants to sell....cause turmoil........even when its going good....they need to dig up some dirt...make claims from unnamed sources....etc.

and alot of fans......just eat it up.....thinking its gospel.

It was nearly impossible to hear the questions being asked. Not a good choice of venue for a press conference IMO.

It was weird to see people walking around behind them. Again, poor choice of venue.

Now that was something I liked hearing! I have always believed that you play like you practice, so you should practice like you want to play.

I was impressed with how well Garrett handled the media, like he was the guy in control, not them. Very different from Wade in that respect. He seemed amused at times with their stupid questions and moved on quickly when there was no point in answering them.

What the heck do these reporters expect him to say in response to some of their questions anyway? "Yes, I'm just a puppet and Jerry pulls all the strings and makes all the decisions." Even if he believed that he would never say it, especially on his first day on the job! Friggin idiots!

I would like to see more press conferences in the future with JUST Garrett and not Jerry. I realize that this was an introductory PC and Jerry needed to be there but I would like to see postgame PCs with just Garrett. If he really is the guy in charge then there is no reason for Jerry to make an appearance in the future.

I think my statement was pretty clear. They have a history of drafting and bringing in smallish finesse type players especially at LB. Other then Ware who have they brought in this decade that was a physical LB? Burnett? Dat? Brooking? Lee? Shanlee, Carpenter? You cant be a physical team if you bring in finesse players.

Soooooooo many things to like about that press conference.............

Especially liked the effort to kill/address much of what the awesome person media and too many awesome person fans love to cry about.

I would have thought Jerry had the read post I made a few days ago about how he actually operates as GM and how it's so much better than a removed owner.

I also loved the talk about physical camp and earning it.

Now after the final staff is in place all we need to do is take drastic steps toward increasing our depth.....

Trade down to the bottom of the 1st rd and set our selves up with an additional 4-5 selectons in rds 2-4.

Go almost exclusively BPA and improve the depth and competition for playing time in most units.

I can see smallish with Dat and Coakley ..... but all those guys were or are all hard nosed football players.

Burnett and Carpenter was both finesse ...... but Parcells (Mr. Hard nose himself) brought them in.
