I still take solace in my belief that the 93 Cowboys where one of the top 5 greatest teams of all time, up there with the 85 Bears 89 49ers, 78 Steelers and 72 Dolphins.

Yeah. 4 straight would have put us at the top of all of this discussion about best teams ever.

Now we seem to be at the end of the list... an oh yeah what about them?... all because of a bad first quarter against the 49ers.

Yep.

That 1st qtr still haunts me... more than "the catch". We were right there... and blew it.

Time heals all.... but that one STILL bothers me.

4 straight would've been highly possible and maybe 5. In any case, I think we would've had more than 3 and been in contention for several more years past '95.

I will say that 4 was very, very possible.

1. The Patriots cheated and won 3 of those Super Bowls by a combined less then 3 points...

2. Bill Walsh pretty much stated that the reason they implemented free agency is because they saw Dallas winning a string of Super Bowls...

Number 2 essentially means the NFL took measures to prevent Dallas from dominating the 90s.... It wasn't simply about JJ leaving the organization...

I had never heard that about #2. Walsh said that... wow..

Are you guys just giving this game to the Pats? You don't think the Giants have any chance at all?

You have a 50-50 chance.

Don't ever ever forget " the 49ers and Broncos both circuimvented the cap" !!!! Why o why does this not get mentioned as the worst cheating scandal in all of nfl football history. That's at least 3 total superbowls between the two that I know of for sure. Not sure if 49ers cheated in more than the last two seasons of last superbowl, I forgot. This is way more egregious than videogate.

Interesting....

Patriots are going to tie us up quickly if we dont do anything about it.

Their division is absolutely a joke. They will have plenty of shots at more Superbowls for years to come.

Yep. What are you going to do about it Cowboys?
We can easily take some thunder out of their dynasty run by beating them in the SB during their decade.

Maybe you're thinking about the salary cap?

The first form of free agency was implemented in 1989.

72 Dolphins are the most overated team of all time. Their schedule that year was a joke and if Roger doesn't get hurt, we win back to back over the Dolphins, period, end of discussion, screw the Dolphins.

Just my opinion.

Go Pats, shut those damn Dolphins up.

I agree, assuming the fear of Jimmy Johnson would have kept Michael Irvin in line.

Ah, the wasted opportunity. :(

1. Yes I'm saying the Giants have no shot at all. They are not going to win.

2. It doesn't matter if their 3 wins were by 3 points or less. They won. That is all that matters.

3. We would have probably won the 4 in the row, if not the slip up in 94, but I don't know if we'd have still had enough to win 5. I mean I don't think it matters whether Jimmy was there or not, losing Sanders and Irvin to injury in the Carolina game would have been really hard to over come.

I hope you're wrong, but I fear you're right.

I'll take a 3 point win over a loss any day.

But the Cowboys would likely have been playing that game in Dallas not Carolina. And wasn't that the year Irvin got suspended?

Yeah he was suspended the first 5 games of the year, I don't know if that would have been avoided either way.

Now, yes, maybe we'd have been playing in Big D instead of Carolina but if Irvin and Deion still went down...would it really have mattered? Even if you get passed that game, to the NFC title game, Deion and Irvin were both serious injuries and neither would have played in the NFC Title game so it would have been very hard to beat the Packers that year without a full team.

Well yeah, but who's to say they don't get hurt?

Too many variables to speculate here.

If we can get our stuff together we could be the first to 6 in the next few years, and hopefully more after that.

If its any conciliation, at least we had two eras as opposed to those who only had three. Everyone gets wet about the Steelers of the 70's, but most football fans know how dominant the Boys were. 5 Super Bowls in one decade and 2 championships to go with 3 in 4 ain't bad.
