The problem can be identified and the solution is simple and complex at the same time.

After some thought, I have come to the conclusion that Garrett is not an incapable coach; we simply lack the type of players needed to run the type of offense that he runs. Because of this, he is limited in what plays he can actually call. What Garrett needs is an offense like the Rams or Colts of the early 2000's; speedy wide receivers that can spread defenses, get in and out of cuts quickly, and provide a deep threat on both ends of the field. He also needs a versatile) that can pick up chunks of yardage quickly and catch out of the backfield. What we actually have is more of a pounding offense that is built to sustain long drives with power running and recievers moving the chains in the middle with short to intermediate routes. Owens made a very true comment a month ago when he said the it isn't the players; its the scheme. Garrett was just to stubborn to change his philosophy to what we really needed to do.

So now that we have identified the problem, what is the solution? The simple answer is to either get new players to fit what Garrett wants to do or get another OC that will take advantage of the players we have. Neither of these simple answers are easily done though.

It is fixable, but changes need to be made. Sorry to all the Barber lovers out there (and I am one of them) but Felix needs to be the starter. The common denominator on both of the previously mentioned offenses was Marshall Faulk. The player that more closely resembles that) is not named Barber; his name is Felix Jones, and he needs to be the starter. Next, we need to find wide receivers, notice the plural "s" on the end of that word, that can stretch the field. One speedy WR will not get it done. The reason why Williams was not productive is not because he sucks, its because he is not the type of WR that benefits from Garrett's offense. So maybe we made a mistake in trading for him. Maybe Austin and Stanback can develop into the Azir-Hakims and Marvin Harrisons of the world. Chances are that we will have to search the draft pool for at least one more speedy WR. Owens and Williams are here to stay though, so there is your delimma. If we can get two speedy receivers to run the spread offense with, then that should really. help RW & TO. Crayton definitely needs to be replaced with someone speedy.

Ifthat isn't going to happen, then we need to find someone willing to use the players that we have and put them in position to do what they do best. This isn't to say that Garrett is a horrible coach, but we need a coaching philospohy to fit the players if we are not going to make significant changes to player personell.

Romo is not damaged goods, but he needs someone that can teach him how to manage the game. It might not be a bad idea to draft someone to groom as his replacement just in case he never learns.
I think the defense is fine just as long as the offense can score points and not put too much pressure on them. We will need to find a coverage safety and a run-stuffing NT. Youth at ILB would be a wise idea as well. The special teams coach is the only person that needs to be sent home.

Bottom line, unless there is a change in coaching philosophy or players to fit the current philosophy, our offense will continue to stall in the second half of the season and the defense will always collapse from being ovwrworked due to no help from the offense.

I think it would be easier to get a OC that would establish the run and control the game than it would to be to re-stock the team to suit Garretts needs.

Our problems with accountability are systemic and they start at the top with the GM.

Shouldn't you put GM in scare quotes? ;)
